Ryleigh's POV
We walked inside and I sat on the couch waiting for aunt Lisa. She had to go upstairs and make sure Lilly went to bed.
She came back down and sat next to me.
"Ryleigh we both know why we're here." She said.
"Um...I don't." I pointed out. I actually wasn't positive.
"What actually happened between you and Max?"
"Exactly what he told you."
"Why do I feel like you're lying?" She asked.
"I have no clue."
"I don't think this relationship is a good thing for you." She said.
My stomach dropped.
"W-what?" I asked.
"I don't think you and Max should be together."
"Aunt Lisa, I'm almost fifteen and it's not like he's a bad guy. He's actually the sweetest guy I've ever met. I should be allowed to date him if I want to."
"Ryleigh, when you came to live with me that gave me authority over you. Therefore, I can in fact do this." She told me. I think she was trying to sound strict, which she's usually not.
"So you want me to break up with him?"
"I think it'd be best."
"What do you have against him?" My voice was getting louder because honestly I was getting really pissed.
"Nothing. I just don't think a boyfriend is something you need right now. You just found out about your father passing away and you should be focusing on school too, you go back in a couple days. And plus, it seems like Max just wants to make out with you anyways." She said.
I just shook my head and walked away from her. She just had to bring up my dad! And I know for a fact that Max does actually care about me.
I went into my room and collapsed onto my bed in tears. I had to call Max.
He picked up after two rings.
"Hey Ry." He said.
"Hey..."
"Oh no. What happened?" He asked sounding really concerned.
"I...my aunt...my dad...I..." I couldn't get the words out. I need Max right now more than anything.
"Alright Ry, calm down. I'm on my way." He said.
"But you can't."
"I'll climb the tree next to your window." He told me before he hung up.
I laid on my bed in tears until I heard tapping on my window. Sure enough, there was Max. I opened the window and he engulfed me in a hug.
"If my aunt finds out you're here, I'm dead." I said.
"Then we won't be here."
"What?"
"You're coming to my house." He whispered to me.
I nodded. I knew I'd probably get in trouble, but I didn't care.
We climbed out the window and down the tree, both managing to not get hurt.
We walked into Max's house to see his family in the living room.
"Hey Mum? Can Ryleigh stay for the night?" He asked.
"Of course. Is everything alright?" Sara asked.
I shook my head with tears still running down my cheeks because honestly it didn't feel like anything was okay. Max squeezed my hand.
"Does Lisa know she's here?" Sara asked Max because I guess she knew I didn't want to answer questions.
"No and I think it's best she doesn't." He said.
"She's going to be worried." Sara said.
"She's the reason Ryleigh's here." Max told her. "Look, call her if you want, but Ryleigh's staying no matter what."
We started to walk upstairs when we heard Harvey.
"Sleep in the guest room! I don't wanna deal with you guys kissing!" He yelled.
Max rolled his eyes and led me to the guest room. I sat down on the bed and Max plopped down next to me.
"Don't worry Ry, I'm right here." He said wrapping his arms around me. "Can you tell me what happened?"
I nodded and explained everything. I had to pause a few times because of how much I was crying.
"We'll deal with everything in the morning, okay?" He asked as we got into bed.
I nodded, but I hadn't stopped crying yet. Max pulled me into him and kept a tight grip around my waist.
"Relax baby, I'm here." He whispered. He lifted my chin and gently kissed my lips and then my forehead.
I eventually calmed down enough to sleep.
"Goodnight Ryleigh." He said.
"Goodnight." I mumbled.
