My eyes fluttered open. I slowly took in a deep breath and let it out. I looked around to see where I was. As my eyes drifted around the room I realized the purple shade of the wall was the same as my bedroom. I sat up on my elbows. I looked to the left and saw my familiar nightstand with all of my makeup spread a crossed it. My alarm clock was screeching so loud it sounded like someone had just woken up a very tired baby. I softly pushed the off button and everything fell into an eerie silence. I looked to the right and saw my pitch-black dresser taking up over half the wall. Had everything from last night been a horrid dream? I pulled back the covers and saw the same plain black tank top and jean shorts. It couldn't have been it seemed too real to be just a nightmare. I leapt from the bed and raced to the mirror that hung off the back of my door. I looked at the right side of my neck. Sure enough there was a fresh scab the size of the tip of a ballpoint pen in the middle of my neck. I swung open my door and ran for my sister's room. I busted through the partially opened door. The bed had not been disturbed. Nothing in her room had been moved around. Maybe, she already cleaned her room and made her bed for mom and dad. I kept praying I would find her down stairs in the kitchen. She might have gotten hungry? I raced down our new wood stairs and sprinted for the kitchen. I raced through the swinging door that blocked my view from into the kitchen in search of Jessica. I saw mom, dad, and James all sitting at the table but no Jessica. All of my hopes from earlier had been crushed in only two seconds. I Elizabeth Carter had to face the facts that one my little sister, Jessica had been taken by a black misty creature, and two that it was completely my fault that she was taken.
I felt as though I couldn't move from the shock but my feet inevitably dragged my unwilling body to the only empty chair left at the dinner table. My mother grabbed my hands as a tear fell to the floor. "Where is she?" I asked in a cracked voice, just above a whisper. Dad rubbed his eyes like he was trying to figure out what to tell me.
"Just tell her, she is going to have to find out sooner or later. So just tell her now she has already seen one." James angrily growled at dad. "Tell me what?" I quizzically asked him.
"Your sister is in the depths of hell." Dad blandly stated. He showed no emotion, almost like he hadn't cared. Like her being taken from us had meant nothing.
"What the hell are you talking about? My sister was taken and you're sitting here telling me all this bull shit. There is no way she could have been taken to hell. One she is so innocent, and two she would have had to die she was alive when I watched her get pulled down into the floor." I accusingly asked everyone at the table.
"Elizabeth just please, calm down and listen to them. I thought the same thing when they told me a few years ago. But it is true. I have been there myself, and I'm not dead yet." James softly said as he looked down thru the glass that made up the surface of our table.
"Ok, I will listen." I softly say with a tinge of anger still coating my words.
"Well this world is not as it seems. There is a heaven and hell but there are also places in between them like our world called dimensions. Places were the regulars (humans) couldn't go. Places where evil viler than anything you can imagine roams or places where everything is so righteous that the word perfect shames the beings living there. Our world, Earth, is directly in the middle of heaven and hell that's why good balances with evil. Everything on this earth is so balanced between the two, so that every time something good happens, in another part of the planet something so wrong is committed to balance it out. Sometimes when good overpowers wrong demons, as we call them here on Earth, come and commit horrible acts to fix the balance between the two But when wrong overpowers good angels, come to earth to Earth and restore the balance to its normal state. But we ourselves are not regulars. We are what people call roamers. We can travel to anyplace we want, to heaven, hell, or anyplace in between. We roam to any place as we please. Your sister was taken by a demon and is most likely being held within the depths of hell. The gateway into hell is in an abandoned house in Miami, Florida. But it is very dangerous down there. First you have to know how to tell if someone is an angel or demon or a regular. You can tell if a person is a demon if they have neon green eyes. But the elite for hell will have midnight black eyes. If they have bright blue eyes there an angel. The elite for heaven will have silver colored eyes. Your brother is a full angel just like your mom. Your sister is a full demon just like I am. You, well you are what people from all worlds consider the regulars. You are neither angel nor demon. Therefore you aren't able to go and retrieve her from hell. Your brother must first go to the heavens and ask the gods for help. Then with their help he will go and get her and bring her home." Dad said warily.
"So you're saying there is absolutely nothing I can do to help get her back? That it is impossible for me to get to her? So there is no way for me to fix this? That it's my fault she is gone but I can't go get her and protect her like I should have done in the first place?" I shouted through tears that started streaming down my face like a river of sadness and sorrow.
"Yes, that's exactly what I am saying to you." Dad spoke out just above a whisper. "James, go pack we shall leave for the heavens right now.
"Ok, give me five minutes and we will be walking out the door." James said as he got up out of the chair and headed up stairs. I stood up still sobbing and raced to my room. I grabbed the small, black suitcase from inside my closet and started packing. I was heading to Miami even if there was nothing I could do. I was still going to try, for Jessica's sake I was still going to try. I threw in five pairs of clothes. I grabbed all the money from the top drawer of my dresser. I had eight hundred and sixty dollars. I hoped it would cover the trip. I would leave after the guys left. How am I going to find the abandoned house dad was talking about? I have no clue but I will figure it out on the plane ride there. I heard the car outside startup. They must be leaving.
After I was one hundred percent sure they were gone I snatched my suitcase and ran out of the house. I ran down our street for three blocks until I was sure mother wasn't going to be able to come and get me without the car. I turned to the left on the next street and headed in towards the city.
