Chapter Three

The next few days went in a blur. I attended classes as usual and always waited for science, which had become my favorite subject. My science partner, Katrina, is very nice and I have found myself growing fond of her. She makes attending this human school much more enjoyable to me, and I feel I will become attached to this planet called Earth really soon.

“HEADS!” A voice yelled from behind me, pulling me from my thoughts. I turned around fast enough to see a ball hurling towards my face. I stuck my hands up and caught it with ease, then threw it back to the boy. A slight look of shock passed his face after he caught the ball, but disappeared after a few seconds. He stuck his hand out towards me and grinned.

“Hey, I’m James. That’s a nice arm you've got.” A nice arm? What does he mean by that? My arm looks just like all the other students at this school.

“Thank you. I am Rexer.” I replied, hoping what I said was right.

A voice shouted his name in the distance and I saw a group of guys waiting impatiently. James glanced at them quickly and turned back to me. “See you round, I guess.” And with that he raced over to the beings I suspect were his friends. So far he is the third student to actually talk to me at this…school.

I am starting to think that most humans do not regard people they do not know as often as the people that they know. It is strange compared to back home, where everyone greets each other regardless whether they know them or not. I must include this fact in my next report.

For the second time today, I was pulled out of my thoughts. But this time, it was due to the bell signalling class is starting. I grab my books scattered on the grass around me and head over to the science block.

“Can anyone tell me what happens when these two substances are mixed together?” The teacher asked. I glance around the room, noticing all the students were either zoned out or whispering to their friends, giving no signs of actually caring what he was saying. The teacher, Mr Anderson, stared blankly at the class, he too uninterested in what was happening. “Well, then I guess I have to pick a student to answer this question for me. Mitch, can you tell the class about this?”

Mitch groaned and glared at Mr Anderson.  He made a show of opening his book and flicking through the pages. Next to me I could see Katrina roll her eyes, obviously knowing that an argument would soon break out between these two men. I have learned that this is a frequent experience and each day Mitch says something that makes it even worse. I sink into my chair and wait as the scene before me rolls out.

“I don’t know.” Mitch responded, crossing his arms. “Why don’t you tell us, sir? Or are you too stupid?” He smirked as Mr. Anderson turned red with anger.

“Get out of my class, NOW!” The teacher shouts, making the class jump. Mitch lazily stood up, grabbed his stuff and headed towards the door, not before sticking up the finger to the teacher.

“He’s really done it this time.” Katrina whispered to me. I could only nod in agreement as I do not understand what she meant by that.

After that little, experience, class flew by quickly and not before long we had been dismissed. Katrina, like every other day so far, hooked her arm into mine and dragged me down the hallway. She then stopped, spun me around and smiled.

“Goodbye, Kind sir.” She giggled, talking in some type of accent.

“Goodbye Katrina.” I said. I watched as she raced down the hall, occasionally bumping into a student and nearly falling over.  I smile to myself and walk towards my next class.
