Math class was a breeze. I didn't know that Earth math was so easy. But I didn't prove my point by showing off my skills. Besides, I needed to stay as new student who's trying to settle in. Not some whiz kid who answers all the questions that was asked. Not a single student in the class paid any interest to the teacher.
I sighed. I pitied the teacher who was teaching the students earnestly. I bet he didn't get paid a lot for his efforts. But still, I remained silent in my seat until the class was over.
I got up from my desk and hung my head low as I walked over to the exit. As I retreated along with the other students into the hallway, towards where I presumed was the canteen, somebody called out to me.
"Hey Rexter! Wait up!"
I looked back to see Katrina jogging up to me and slung her arm over my shoulder as if we were old mates. I was confused with her familiarity with me. I just smiled at her but it faltered when I saw her friend, Mitch, walking up to us. He had a frown on his face and I could formulate that he didn't like me being close to Katrina. Well, what can I do? She was just so friendly that I can't help to respond back.
"Hello there," I nervously said.
"You're heading to the canteen right?" Katrina chriped.
I nodded sheepishly.
"Great! Let's head there together and we could talk about loads of things about you!" she cheerily said as she dragged me towards the canteen.
I found myself unable to refuse her request so I trudged along with her. At the midst of the cheery request, I managed to hear a groan coming from Mitch. Ahh. That groan confirmed my suspicions that he really doesn't like me, and it was all because of Katrina's friendliness. But I pushed that thought aside as I put a smile on my face as we entered the canteen.
We sat down as soon as we all got our food. Katrina started talking about her family and all I could do was smile and stare at how happy she looked. Her eyes would sparkle and twinkle like the stars, and I must say they are huge. Her lips would tilt upwards as she mentioned her little brother whose name was Carl. I guessed that he was the only sibling she had and she cherished that relationship. She would always talk in a gesticulating manner to emphasize her point. But the way she speaks doesn't really need that. She spoke so well and she didn't beat around the bush unlike other humans I have speculated. Basically, she was down to earth and wouldn't hesitate to speak her mind.
I looked to her left and saw Mitch grumbling at some parts of her story. He must have heard it so many times before that he didn't find it interesting.
I shifted my attention back towards Katrina as she beamed a tale about her brother once more. She stopped suddenly and asked, "Hey Rexter. Aren't you going to eat your lunch?"
Surprised by her sudden question, I looked down at my food and had realized that I didn't even touch my food. I was too entranced by Katrina's voice that I didn't bother to eat. I quickly made up an excuse and said, "Sorry. I didn't realize it. Your life was really interesting and I got carried away."
So I picked up my fork and shoved the fries in my mouth. The truth is I can’t really eat human food. I have to pretend and eat it in front of everybody, but in reality, I keep the food in storage somewhere in my body so that I can remove it after when nobody's around.
As I swallowed the food reluctantly, I didn't miss the tinge of red that was coloring Katrina’s cheeks. It was a beautiful sight and I wondered what triggered that sudden rush of blood to her face. As quickly as it came, it immediately subsided. It left me wondering what it was.
The classes passed by quickly and I got through the day safely. When I was leaving the school, Katrina offered me a ride home but I declined it politely. I could see that Mitch couldn't take anymore second to be with me. Much to my disappointment, she didn't pester anymore. She waved me goodbye until she was no longer in view along with her friend, Mitch.
Reaching my apartment, I unlocked the door and immediately walked over to my room. My computer was on and the screen was blinking. I rushed myself towards it and checked the blinking message.
It read, "Status Report."
Sitting myself down, I quickly typed in, "Day one. A success. Infiltrated the school with no problems. No witnesses having suspicion."
I pressed sent and then shut the computer off. I threw myself on the bed for it was a tiring day and my systems shut down automatically.
