I still couldn't figure out why I was so nervous around him. At first we talked about what we liked, favorite foods, colors, drinks, etc. Then it came down to the main question I had for him, it was a question that had been bugging me since the kiss we shared that morning.
"Ok Tristan, why do you like me? How could you like me within 2 days of knowing me and hating me?"
Present Cassi's POV:
"Honestly Cassi, I don't know why I like you.....you captivate me with your independence and uniqueness. You were unlike all the girls, the only one who didn't drape themselves all over me."
"Ahh, I see Tristan."
Tristan's POV:
I took a deep breath and began talking again.
"Cassi, when I ask you this question, I would hope that you would be able to answer me truthfully and thoroughly...do you like me?"
"Umm, well umm, ─"
I knew now, it was too good to be true. "You know what Cassi, forget it, and forget I even asked. I knew it was too good to be true but you know I hoped anyways! Every day since you bumped into me I couldn't stop thinking about you..........just forget it...."
I stood up off the bed, grabbed the keys, and ran out of the house. I drove all the way to the beach and sat down on a tree stump on a cliff overlooking the beach.
I can't believe it I told her my feelings for her and in return I got nothing....

UGH! Charlie pain-in-my-ass-subconscious!
Do not cuss at me I just wanted to say that there might have been more to the reason why Cassi was hesitant in her answer.

After having a long war with my subconscious, I decided that it was time to go home...I walked into the room to find her curled up on the bed in a fetal position asleep, with tear tracks running down her face.
"Cassi, I'm so sorry, I am falling for you...and I wish you could say that to me too.... I apologize for what I did this evening..."
She shifted in her sleep and snuggled into my body.
Cassi POV:
After he ran out I cried and cried and cried I couldn't believe that I was so afraid to tell him the truth. I need to tell him why I was afraid, and I need to let him know how much I like him.
Still Cassi's POV: Monday Morning:
The next morning I awoke to the feel of Tristan's strong arms wrapped around my waist. I snuggled in closer to as something I feel that was real but I think I dreamt popped back into my head. I don't remember what time it was all I remember hearing was Cassi, I'm so sorry, I am falling for you...and I wish you could say that to me too.... I don't know who said it...I just know I need to clear up the mess I made with Tristan.
Reluctantly I shifted my body and sat up. Tristan opened his eyes and sleepily looked at me.
"Morning Cassi....."
"Before you say anything Tristan, I just wanted to say I'm sorry. The truth is the reason I was so hesitant is that yes, I like you, I like you A LOT, but I am afraid to like or even love a person after what happened to me. Do you know why your parents arranged a marriage for you and I?"
"Um, No?"
"They arranged it, certainly not for your benefit but for my family's. The reason was because your mom, my mom's friend...found out that my ex-stepfather was beating us (Drake, Mum, and I). At first he was all nice, and for the first time since my dad died I love him like a father. Then one day I walked in on him beating my mom, I could see the intent for murder in his eyes so I distracted him...in return I got this....and my brother moved out."
After I finished speaking I turned around lifted up my tank top to show him the jagged X scar on my lower back.
"You see Tristan....I don't want to trust a person with my heart again to having it ripped out and stomped on....I just won't be able to handle it."
