I woke up with Dr.James standing beside the bed with his clipboard in hand, his brown eyes full of concern.
"What is it?" I sat up quickly, frightening Olivia. "Shh baby. Go back to sleep." I cooed as Olivia nestled up into my chest.
"There's something wrong with 2 babies." He said with a sympathetic face, jotting something down on his clipboard.
"Which two?! Will they be alright?" I asked concerned. "Tell me my babies will be okay."
"Well, we seem to have a problem with Alexander and Zoey is extremely premature. Alexander will have to stay here for testing and Zoey will have to stay in the nique."
"How long will you keep my babies? MY babies. I want to take them all home!" I cried, raising my voice. Although my voice was loud I didn't seem to wake up Michael. He was a heavy sleeper. Olivia, on the other hand was a very light sleeper and cried when I shouted. I must've startled her. I held her tighter into my chest and wrapped my arms around her. "Shh. Hush little baby, don't you cry. Momma's gonna sing you a lullaby." I sang and she quickly was out."
Dr.James watched as I put Olivia to sleep then continued, "I'm not exactly sure on how long we will have to keep Zoey or Alexander. My estimate for Zoey would be about a month, at its highest. I really don't have a logical estimate for Alexander, testing could take as little as a week to as high as a month. It all depends on if we find he diagnosis quickly. After about two weeks, if we still haven't found out what is wrong with Alexander then you can take him home but, you will have to bring him back to the hospital almost everyday."
I just gave a blank look, speechless. "How are my other babies? Are they okay? When can I take them home?"
"Since there were six sharing the same nutrients as each other, they didn't get quite enough. They're not quite ready to go home yet but, should be in a couple of days." He explains bringing his clipboard to his side.
"Can I see my babies?" I ask and he nods, walking out of the door.
"Michael!" I yell, plugging Olivia's ears.
"What?" He sits up, disoriented. Oh, so now he wakes up.
"The babies are coming in. The doctor will explain some things about Zoey and Alexander. " I say as I watch the door. I see Dr.James walk through but he and Nurse Violet only have four babies. I figured they would start testing soon but, not this soon.
"You can't test on my baby without my permission, you know?" I snap bring Dr.James attention to me.
"I have brought the paper work. We have not started testing yet, Mrs.Adams." He said walking over with his clipboard in hand.
I started reading through the paperwork. I signed then passed it over to Michael. We will soon have to sign the birth certificates since they were now made. They were now a day old. I slowly sit up and shift Olivia over to where she is laying on the bed. I start to get up but, slowly sit back down. My stitches hurt and Violet can tell. She runs over to me and grabs my hand helping me up. I grab Sadie and Violet grabs Nathaniel for me.
I sit down in a chair and let Olivia have the bed. "Thank you." I say as Violet hands me Nathaniel.
