We have just entered the hospital and they're finding me a room.
I just sit down and rub my belly, talking to them. Michael takes my hand and slides my hand in his. I like when he does that, it makes me forget about the world even if we've only been married for 7 years. I enjoy waking up to his snoring butt, every morning. Michael turns and kisses my cheek. It still gives me butterflies in my baby full, stomach.
"Mrs.Adams?" A beautiful, young lady, probably earlier twenties, asks.
"That's me." I say standing up.
"Let me help you." Michael says. He let's me grab a hold of his arm and he pulls me up. Correction, us up.
On our way to my room all I can think about is the change that is about to happen. Olivia holds on to Michael's hand and I hold the bottom of my stomach with both hands.
"Mommy you alwight?" Olivia asks.
I smile at the thought of her concern. "Yes baby, mommy's just fine. Did you know that you're going to be a big sister soon?" I ask, looking at the elevator befor us. I've never really noticed how plain hospitals are. No color really.
"WEALLY?" Olivia asks clapping her hands in excitement. Olivia is such a smart kid, but her speech is another thing. Liv can't pronounce her r's instead, they come out with the w sound. I think it's adorable but, I'm her mother.
"Yes, really." Michael says as he starts tapping his foot impatiently. How long must an elevator take to come get us? I am in labor, elevator! Come on.
"Olivia, you can stay in my room until the babies start coming. Okay?" I ask as the elevator comes up and dings. I guess I'm not scared because I'm prepared. The only thing that DOES scare me is, I'll be a mother of 7.
We haul into the elevator and the nurse hits the 3 button, indicating that I'll be on my luck number's floor. Lucky because we have 3 little girls coming and 3 little boys. Olivia was 3 when we found out we were pregnant. When I was 3, I found out my mom was having a boy, I always wanted a brother. Michael is the 3rd son from his parents. Most importantly on the third date, Michael asked me out.
The elevator dings and we walk down a long hallway.
"Okay. Whewe will I go?" she asks.
"Grandma. And. Grandpa. Will. Take. You." I'm starting to not be able to breath. The contractions are starting to attack me.
"Okay ma'am, you will be in room 263, is that alright?" You can tell by the way she asks, that this just might be the first time on the job. She asks so uncertain, like she really wants me to tell her the truth, like she wants me to be happy and comfy. I think we'll get along just fine.
"Yes. It's perfect." She gives a look of relief.
"Come right in and we'll get you comfy." She says as she digs through one of the cabinets. I walk in amd take a seat on the bed. I'm actually comfy. For now. It's just a plain, beige room. I don't have to share it, it's a single one's room. It's got a bed, tv, 3 chairs, and couch.
"Are you cold? Hot? Hungry?" She asks showing me a blanket.
I laugh at her eagerness. "No. No. And, No. I'm perfectly fine, thank you."
"By the way, I'm Violet Fern. A very odd combination, I know. Who in the world names their baby after two plants?" She asks giggling cautiously. She holds out her hand to shake but, my hormones are everywhere so grab her and wrap my arms around her. She slowly puts her arms around me and I can feel the squeeze she gives me. Then we both release.
"I'm Claire Adams, and those two are Michael and Olivia." I say pointing to Michael and Olivia, Olivia holding on to Daddy's hand then lets go and gives Violet's legs a hug. Violet bends down and hugs Olivia.
"Well hello Miss.Olivia! Are you ready to be a big sister to 6 babies?" Violet says as she pulls back.
"Yes I am, Violet." She says.
"No ma'am!" I scold Olivia. "What do we call her?"
Olivia looks at me then at Violet. "I am vewy excited to be a big sissy, Miss.Violet." She looks down.
"It's alright. You can call me Violet if you want. Only if it's alright with mommy." Violet says looking at me. I nod in response then cry out in pain as a contraction strikes me. Violet jumps up with fear.
"I'll go get the doctor." She says at goes before I can protest.
Ten minutes later coming through the doorway is my baby doctor.
"Hello Mrs.Adams. How are we today?" He asks writing on his clipboard.
"Contractions are about 5 minutes apart." I say hoping that was enough to answer his question.
"You will not be giving birth natural. Correct?" He asks still not looking up from his clipboard.
I shake my head. "Nope, c sect- Ooo!" I yelp. I rub my belly and lay back. I turn to my side facing Doctor James Drawq, grabbing a hold of the railing on the bed. Then I'd toss to the other side, pulling my big belly took a lot of effort. I couldn't take it anymore. I was in HORRIBLE pain at it wasn't giving up. I squint my eyes while a feel a hand rubbing my back.
"Mooommy!" Olivia cries out as if she's in pain watching me be in pain.
The contractions went on for about a minute but it felt like an hour.
"I think it'd be a good idea to start your c section now." Dr.James says as he looks at me.
"I'll text your parents, baby." Michael stops rubbing my back and grabs Olivia who is now crying uncontrollable in the floor. "I love you and I'll be back once your parents come and pick up Liv." He kisses my forehead then he's gone.
They roll my bed out to a new room. An operating room. They put a mask on me, a plastic bag looking hat, and a cover so they can start the surgery. They numb me and I can't feel my belly any more, only pressure as they cut my stomach and grab my babies.
Dr.James holds up the first baby and announces that it is a boy. Then comes a girl, then another girl, a boy, a girl, and lastly, a boy. I started crying at the sight of my babies.
