I was running. There were bandits behind me. The dragon was flying above me, but he could do nothing to help. I was running straight into an extremely deep canyon. I would not survive the fall. I reached the edged and stared at the rocky bottom. A small stream ran through it. I jumped. I caught the ledge on the other side, but the brittle rock crumbled. I was falling. I didn't even hit the bottom, I just continued to fall through darkness. The wind whistled past me as I plummeted for eternity. Suddenly, I landed in the dragon cave with a jolt.
I breathed heavily and saw the dragon staring at me tensely. I jumped back and the dragon curled his gem-embedded tail neatly around his paws.
"Pretty weird dreams you have," he said.
"Wait—what? You can look into my head too?" I asked astonished.
"Yes," he responded.
He'd been looking into my head all this time and it made me think even more.
The dragon seemed to notice my confused look. "But I do keep personal facts from entering my head."
"So you know why I'm here?" I asked.
"Happy birthday Isabell," he smiled, his yellow eyes glinting.
I was stunned for a second that he knew that today was my birthday but recovered quickly.
"T-Thank you." I stuttered.
He nudged a small package towards me. I opened it and discovered that it was filled with books! I eagerly flipped through the pages of one of them. While I read the first chapter, the dragon flew up to the ledge where he had found blankets. He retrieved what appeared to be a necklace.
"This, I believe, belongs to you." The dragon said, using his claws to present the object to me. It was a simple necklace that had a peculiar blue stone in it's center. I put it on. It fit perfectly around my neck. But a thing he said confused me; 'belongs to you'.
"What do you mean belongs to me?" I asked questioningly.
He turned his back on me and then said," You have a lot to learn."
I was still confused and he didn't say more.
"So...what do I have to learn?" I started after a few moments of silence.
"Have you ever heard of the Dragonsong?" He asked me.
"I've heard your dragon call before when I was four." I replied, assuming it might answer his question.
He nodded." But it wasn't only me."
I stared in astonishment as he slammed a clawed-paw on the stone floor. Thank goodness there was a wall behind me or else I'd be sent flying out of the cave.
In the ground a crevice opened up and I saw an eerie light illuminating from below. I began to slip and the stone floor gave way under me, sending me down into the infinite pit.
