"You're all over the news, darling!" Dana said happily. She took a sip from her Starbucks coffee and began walking off. I followed her, as she her words were broad and I wanted details.
"In a good way or a bad way?" I asked. She didn't turn around, but I finally got my reply after she scolded two secretaries for screwing around.
"Good, very good. Especially since that boy caught you." she smiled at the word 'boy'. "Nobody knows his name, and everybody wants to know who he is. He's that mystery hero boy all the pre pubescent children drool over. It's like a Disney movie scene was recreated, Jaime."
"His name is Connor Parker and he hasn't called me yet and its been two days." I thought, being careful not to say his name. He might not want his name to be out there. I mentally groaned to myself when I remembered how he has neglected to call me. I truly do owe him, he saved my career and then boosted it all in one day.
"Oh, by the way. I'm having a new line coming out in a week and a half. I want you wearing one of the outfits on the runway." she said. I felt the butterflies in my stomach with the knowledge that I'd be on the runway again. "This time, don't fall." I felt the urge to laugh, but I held it in. Dana's face went from serious to happy in a second, right before she pinched my cheeks. "Oh, you're gonna make Cavagnaro Designs bigger than it already is, Jaime!" she said happily before walking off. I heard her ask her assistant for another Starbucks coffee before she ran off to do whatever founders of a clothing company do. I walked in the opposite direction, pulling out my phone to see if Connor ever called. I saw a missed call icon, and began to freak out. Everyone stopped what they were doing and looked over at me. I awkwardly chuckled, shyly waving as they all returned to their work. Without looking at the collar I.D., I called back the number. Someone finally picked up.
"Connor?" I blurted out. I was really off. The voice on the other line was a woman's voice. It was also my mother.
"Jaime, this is your mother." she reminded me. I rolled my eyes, feeling bummed out that it wasn't Connor.
"Oh, hi Mom." I greeted her, little enthusiasm was in my voice. I don't think my Mom picked up on that, because she continued to speak in her usual chipper voice. Like everyone else, she brought up my falling off the stage and the hot guy who caught me.
"I want grandchildren, Jaime!" she said through the phone. I shook my head in frustration.
"Don't even, okay. I'm twenty." I reminded her, feeling as if she's forgotten my actual age. I fall into a supposedly hot guys arms and now my Mom is going crazy over it. "I have to go now, bye." before she could go on about my performance two nights ago, I hung up and put my phone on vibrate in case Connor decided to call.
Ugh, I shouldn't be getting all caught up with some guy I only spoke to got a minute. But like, what if something happens between him and I? Maybe I should Google him. But then that would make me a stalker. I'll just wait for a call, hopefully he calls me. I really do owe him.
"Jaime, come here!" I heard Dana call for me. I quickly jogged over towards the source of her voice.
