"Lucy? What's wrong? Lucy!" Slowly, I picked up the phone.
"You're... engaged?" I said, my eyes fixed on the tv. "That's... Who Lissana is?"
"It's complicated Lucy." He said.
"Complicated how?" I demanded. Suddenly, the doorbell rang, I stomped over, and flung it open.
"Look, I have responsibilities in my job." Natsu said.
"So? You could have told me." I said.
"I didn't think it'd be made public. I've been trying to keep it under wraps."
"Because that makes it better?"
"Trying to keep it under wraps until I can solve it." Natsu sighed. "I didn't want this engagement Lucy. It was a business venture made by other people in the company." He stepped towards me, "Please Lucy. I want to be with you."
"I-I don't know whether I can trust you." I said. Natsu leaned down as if to kiss me.
"No! You do not get that privilege! I haven't decided yet." I pushed him away.
"Lucy..." He said quietly. "Please." I hesitated. All I wanted to do was to run into his arms crying, and allow him to embrace me for the entire night.
"I-I just don't know." I said, turning away from him. The silence was so thick you could cut it with a knife. "Please Natsu, please just... leave." I said. I could feel tears on my cheeks.
"Lucy." He said, I could feel him behind me.
"Just leave!" I span around. His eyes widened as he took in my teary face. "Just... just go." I felt my voice cracking. I watched as he left.
As soon as the door closed, I collapsed onto the floor, tears streaming down my face, practically wailing. It took all of my willpower not to run after him.
The following morning, the doorbell rang. I didn't answer it. It rang again.
"Lucy! Let me in!"
"Erza!" I ran to open the door. "I'm sorry." She stared at my face.
"Have you been crying?" Erza asked. "You look awful."
"No, I haven't I just... yes..." I suddenly flung myself at her, and started crying once again.
"Lucy, what's wrong?" Erza cried out, slowly leading me towards the sofa, my face buried in her chest, her stroking my hair to comfort me. "If I know maybe I can help you."
"I and Natsu... we," I choked out.
"Did you break up with your boyfriend?" Erza asked, "But you seemed so happy with him!" I pulled out my phone and showed her an article.
"Natsu Dragneel is engaged to Lisanna Strauss..."
"That's what happened." I said, moving away from her. "I saw this on the news, and we broke up."
Erza stared at me, "You were dating Natsu Dragneel?" She said. "But he's like a multi-millionaire. How did you two meet?"
"Um..." I trailed off, "It's an... interesting... story." Erza nodded, as if she realised I didn't want to recount it. Her phone rang then, and she took it.
"I'm sorry Lucy, I have to go, will you be OK?" She asked worriedly.
"I'll be fine." I smiled, wiping my eyes. "See you later." Erza smiled at me.
"If you need anything, just call, OK? I'll be there in a flash." She said as she left.
"OK."
I moved back into the room, and stared listlessly at the phone screen. I couldn't believe this had happened. Then again, his secretary had mentioned a Lisanna. I should've seen it coming.
I moved listlessly around the room. What had I done before I met Natsu? I wrote my novel, yes. I didn't feel up to it. I switched on the TV.
"Is Lisanna Strauss pregnant? Is this the reason behind her engagement?" I changed channels.
"The engagement of Lisanna Strauss and Natsu Dragneel is the biggest gossip right now." I stared blankly at the screen. Everything was about him.
~two months later~
I knocked on Erza's door frantically. She opened it, a worried look on her face.
"Lucy? What's wrong?"
"My period's late." I said, panicked.
"How late?"
"Two months. I didn't pay attention what with everything that was going on, but now..." I stared at her. "What do I do?"
"First of all, we're gonna buy a test, ok?" Erza said, guiding me to the nearby chemist. Literally right next door, Erza owns the practice it belongs to.
"Ok." I said, letting her pick one up off the shelf. She payed, then took me back to her house, placing it in my hand.
"Go use it." She said, pushing me towards the bathroom. I did.
"What is it?" Erza said. I stared disbelieving at the tester.
"Positive."
