As Sunny rolled out of bed on the first day of sophomore year, she had already regretted getting up. Sure, she was good in school, smart, never got into any drama, but she hated being around so many people. Especially when the focus of all attention would be on Jason and Cheryl Blossom.

Not that Sunny wanted the attention -the thought of that would make her sick- but rather the people it was going to didn't deserve it. They were nothing but mean to everyone unless they wanted something. And when they wanted something, they got it.

Dread filled her as she thought about talking in class, getting pushed into lockers, etc. The teen picked at her breakfast that morning, not hungry.

"Come algo! You don't want to be starving on your first day," Melissa Vasquez lectured as she brought her own plate to the sink.

"I'm just worried, mama. What if I embarrass myself or something?" Sunny sighed.

"It doesn't matter if you embarrass yourself, it only matters how you handle it. You can stand up tall and own your mistakes or you can squirm. Best of luck," Melissa said as she handed Sunny her back pack and shoved her out the door.

"Love you, cariña!"

And with that, Sunny was off to school.

Sunny was not paying attention when she opened the door after 4th period biology and yelled a little bit when it hit a body of a passing student.

There lied a girl she had never seen before on the ground while another girl whom she recognized as Betty Cooper held her hands up to her mouth and Sheriff Keller's son did the same.

Sunny leapt onto the ground and immediately tried to help her up, deciding that making an enemy would not be the best way to start sophomore year.

"Oh my gosh are you okay?" She inquired worriedly as the raven haired girl sat up and smiled a little bit.

"Yeah I'm totally fine but maybe watch who's passing before you open the door," she jested as Sunny picked up her books that had been sprawled around. Betty helped the both of them up before introducing the three of them.

"I'm Betty, this is Kevin, and this is Veronica. Nice to meet you," she said while smiling sweetly.

"I'm Sunny. Nice to meet you too," she responded quietly before handing Veronica's books back.
"I'm seriously so sorry about hitting you with a door," she apologized as a heat rose to her cheeks.

"It's all good. Do you have lunch next period? We can eat together," Veronica offered as Betty and Kevin shook their heads. Sunny was in no place to pass up friends so she agreed and the four were on their way.

Betty was explaining little things about the school to Veronica but Sunny tuned out the entire conversation, as she was in her own little world.

"Oh, and of course there's the Back-to-School - semiformal dance this weekend-" Betty informed with a smile and Veronica brought the group to a stop. That's when Sunny looked up and saw the boy that had randomly showed up at her door looking for a phone on July 4th.

"Oh! There's the hottie we were with last night," Veronica exclaimed. "The red-headed Ansel Elgort! Is he your boyfriend?" She asked.
"No, he's straight-"
"No, we're just friends-"
"No, I only met him once-"
Sunny, Betty, and Kevin all said at once. They all smiled at eachother knowingly.

"In that case, mind putting in a word? I've tried every flavor of boy but orange," Veronica implored with her eyebrow up and her voice low. Kevin looked at Betty and then back to Veronica before correcting the situation.

"Actually, to clarify Betty and Archie aren't dating, but they are endgame," Betty smiled at Kevin and blushed a little. Sunny looked about in confusion, the boy she had met didn't really seem like the type of person anyone could be endgame with.

"He seems like a bit of a flirt..." Sunny murmured but was promptly ignored by the group.

"You should ask him to the semiformal then!" Veronica said to Betty with a smile. The blonde made a weird gesture with her hands which Sunny interpreted as a sign of agreement.

"She should, but I heard it might be getting canceled because of what happened to Jason. They're gonna tell us at the assembly," Kevin informed. Sunny scrunched up her eyebrows and pursed her lips but was careful not to let them think anything was wrong.

"Who's Jason and what happened to him?" Veronica questioned and the three people who knew what happened all looked in between each other.

"Something bad..." Sunny mumbled before the four walked into the gym for the assembly. The group looked on as the grieving twin of the lost boy strutted onto the platform that sat in front of the bleachers.
