First Week, First Mistake
The Sorting Hat’s voice sounded across her mind, “Ravenclaw is the most natural choice for you, you would make your Daddy proud and your Mummy too”, it taunted, “you’re certainly blessed with the acuity and skill for it yet I sense a fierce dislike. Hmmm, what about Gryffindor? You’re definitely daring enough, what do you choose?”
“Anything, but Ravenclaw- I don’t want to make Daddy too proud”, she heard her own voice respond.
“Very well, there is something else though, I would heed your mother’s advice-trust nobody”, it said before the tear in its brim opened and it cried, “PY! Wake up!! You’re going to be late!!”
Wait, what?!
That was Lily’s voice, she thought as she was shaken awake. Pyrena had returned late from her meeting with Dumbledore after which she’d stayed up to write her mother a letter, hence, now getting out of bed was a gigantic task. Her excitement, however, prompted her to pull on her robes, make her bed, brush her hair into a ponytail, grab her books and leave the dormitory with Lily in just over five minutes. As they walked towards the Great Hall, Lily and Py discovered they had both chosen all the same subjects-Transfiguration, Charms, Potions, Arithmancy, Care of Magical Creatures, Herbology, Astrology and Defence Against the Dark Arts.
“It’s a good thing you didn’t take Divination”, interjected Lily, “It is a complete waste of time don’t you agree?”
“Well, I’ve never been taught Divination by my Mum. But it has got to be utter rubbish, I mean, predicting the future by looking at tea leaves? Are you fibbing me that’s a whole load of gibberish if you ask me”, agreed Py.
Just then, hundreds of owls stormed the Great Hall carrying mail, two of them skidded to a halt in front of Lily and Py-Lily’s, bearing a copy of the Daily Prophet and Py’s a letter from her mother. Py, tore open the cover and hastily began to read her mother’s letter. She was soon distracted by the arrival of the four ‘Marauders’ who seated themselves opposite her, much to Lily’s disgust judging by the low grunt she gave them before disappearing completely behind her Daily Prophet.
“Morning Blaze!”, Sirius and James exclaimed synchronously.
“Morning”, replied Py, absent mindedly before returning to her letter. Lana had written her back telling her to be careful, she didn’t seem even half as excited as her daughter at all the things Py had experienced, then again she had already been to Hogwarts, thought Py. She often forgot her mother had had a life besides training her.
Breakfast proved to be a fairly awkward affair- James clipped a second year across the head for sitting too close to him, which caused Lily to scream at him and Remus to busy himself with a group of first years, Pettigrew cackled awestruck by Potter as Sirius and Pyrena chuckled silently. James then retorted by asking Lily out, who much to everyone’s amusement had called him an oozing goblin wart and stormed off clutching her bag, seething with anger.
Py collected their timetables from Professor McGonagall and set out to find Lily. She found her sitting in the court yards with the boy Sirius had referred to as Snivelly.
“Thank you so much Py, I’m sorry about leaving like that I was just so….frustrated then. I honestly would have murdered him if I hadn’t left”, said Lily , “Oh, also, this is Severus Snape, he’s a really good friend of mine so don’t let his grouchy looks fool you he can be great fun if he wants to. Severus this is Pyrena my dorm mate.”
“Hello”, Py said extending her hand towards him, “I’m not sure if you remember me but I was at Diagon Alley that day remember when- ”
“Yeah, I remember. Hi, nice to meet you”, he said brusquely before leaving with a muttered goodbye to Lily.
