New Beginnings
She twisted the seams of her long wine coloured dress robes through her fingers, anxiously glancing up at the ornate door of the Headmaster’s office. They had been inside for quite long now, nearly half an hour. After several more minutes of fidgeting, worrying and suspense, the door opened and out stepped her mother followed by Albus Dumbledore. The look of elation and relief on her mother’s face calmed her nerves and after she heard what Dumbledore had to say nothing could stop a grateful grin from spreading across her face.
“I am very glad to inform you that you have been accepted by the Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry. The excellent standard of the homeschooling you received, as you demonstrated, combined with the extraordinary circumstances of which your mother has just informed me have made it impossible for me to refuse you. You have the remarkable talent and singular abilities of a great witch”, he said, with a brilliant twinkle in his blue eyes, “Your booklist will reach you by mail and I am sure your mother is aware of all other procedures, see you in September Pyrena.”
Nearly a month later Pyrena and her mother were bustling through Diagon Alley their arms laden with several shopping bags, full of things she would require for her first year at a proper school. At fifteen one would assume that she had received some form of schooling but Pyrena was no ordinary witch, her abilities were so unique that normal schooling at a young age would have proven disastrous not only for her but those around her as well.
As she waited alone in the long queue outside Flourish and Blotts,(it seemed that everyone had chosen that very day to buy their school supplies), she noticed that several people were gracing her with puzzled and curious stares. Try as she might she just couldn’t comprehend why young witches who chose to wear trousers instead of traditional robes were glared at unabashedly. Ignoring them, she focused instead on two young wizards, just ahead of her who were sniggering silently as they changed the setting on a small card that controlled a Perpetual Rain Cloud(from Zonko’s), so that the drizzle that was already falling over a boy with long greasy hair increased to a steady torrent of rainfall and drenched his clothes. The boy who was shaking with rage tried everything non-magical to stop the rain-he made to grab the cloud but that didn’t work, he then resorted to holding his already soaked shopping over his head in an attempt to stay dry but this didn’t work either and soon he was drenched to the bone, much to the amusement of the other boys.
Finally, Pyrena decided that somebody had to put an end to this, stepping forward she reached into the center of the cloud and the cloud evaporated as suddenly as it had appeared, she laid a hand on the shoulder of the drenched boy and his robes dried instantly, the two sniggering boys were silent as they tried to comprehend what had just happened.
They stepped forward to have a word with the odd girl who had thwarted their prank only to see her glide away gracefully, in the direction of Gringotts, having decided that her books could be bought later.
