Chapter Eight: A Hard(y) Hit

Out of every person on the suspect list, I never would have thought that Theo would be so...emotionally drained. Or my stepmother so nice. Or Hardy so...angry.

Hardy has never been the type of person to simply lash out without question. He always tried to at least talk things over first. But now that I'm gone, he's so "fight first, ask questions later", especially when the detectives came by for questioning.

It's almost as though he has something to hide.

His grieving process made him fairly unpredictable, even though it was the classic "five stages". When he was in denial, he would go to a place that "matched his temper", or a place with very little color or light, and as the stages went on, he would keep making them brighter and brighter until he was finally embracing his loss. Now he's so easy to find, seeing as he's stuck on anger for whatever reason.

He was in the home's hair parlor that I had built so I would never need to leave the house (I was quite the sloth when it came to getting things done). All the lights were off and the only way you could see was from the sun rays shining in from the windows, which were tinted and slightly dirty.

And he was with my stepmother?

"So."
"So what, Hardy?"
"So I know you know."
"What? Who the killer is?"
"Yes. So why don't you just tell me?"
"Because you only THINK that I do. But I don't."
"Yes you do! It's written all over your face. You at least know SOMETHING. Look, how about this; I share something with you, and you share something with me."
"And why would I do that?"
"Because if mine and yours fits, then we may be able to help."

This feels wrong. All of this feels wrong.

"...My God."
"Meral--"
"Thank you, Hardy. You've helped so much."

She ran out.

And now I think this case is closed.

A/N: Don't worry, I'm not ending it here. There will be another chapter after this that reveals the killer, and why they did it. Comment who you believe the killer is and why, and feel free to look back at the other chapters for help. Thanks! ❤️
