CARRIE
I shriek and pull her down on the floor. I look around and try to find an escape. Soldiers dressed in black fill all the entrances on the bus and they start pulling people out. I see the hatch at the top of the bus but there was no way we could reach it. I close my eyes and pull Shia's shaking body closer to me. The soldiers hold guns at people and seem to have weird armor on.
They scream at us to stay down but one old couple doesn't comply. The older lady cannot lie down and her husband starts crying as a soldier comes closer to her. She starts crying as she try's to lie down but she simply can't. The soldier spins his gun and shakes his head. She whimpers and kneels down. "I can't lie down, I'll never be able to get back up." She says softly.
I try to look away but I can't, stuck and in shock. He tilts his head sideways and shakes his head again. "Let this be a lesson to you all." he says the last word slowly targeting everyone on the bus. He holds his gun out and in one quick movement she is on the ground. I whimper and squeeze my eyes shut. I hear screaming all around me and gun shots everywhere.
I feel a hard kick in my side and I groan. I open my eyes and look up to see a man towering over me. "Get up now." He says before grabbing both of my arms. He jerks me up and tears Shia away from me. I scream and try to reach her in anyway I can. I kick and squirm wildly and I see Shia stand and come after me. I start to cry and I call her name as loud as I can.
A women appears behind her and grabs both of her arms. The women kicks her down and I see her falling. I scream louder than I ever thought I could and Shia lifts her head. She winks at me and falls unconscious. I start to sob as I'm pulled out of the almost empty bus. The man pushes me onto the ground outside of the bus and leans down next to me ear.
"Have fun at camp." He whispers sickly as he walks away. I try to stand but I can't feel my legs or any part of my body for that matter. I look around me and see absolute chaos. People running from he soldiers, crashed and abandoned cars, bodies wounded and dying, bombs, gun shots, and buildings on fire.
A few minutes ago the world was safe and sane, but now everything is gone. I clench my eyes and try to stand once more. I groan and look to my left, the old woman who was knocked out lies next to me. She's covered in blood and unconscious. I look away and turn to my right and I see a boy around my age looking at me.
He has a gash in his forehead and his glasses are cracked. He moves his head slightly to the right and moths the words lets run. I look and see the soldier who pulled me out of the bus talking on his radio. I look back at the boy and now he moves his head in the direction of the woods.
I nod my head the best I can and I try to stand. He shakes his head and pulls out his arm to stop me. I gasp a little, he can move. "I'll tell you when." He whispers. I start to tear up "I have a... friend still in there." I whisper back. He frowns and shakes his head. "We can't go back we would get caught." He says and he shushes me. He closes his eyes, pretending to be unconscious and I follow suit.
A few minutes later I feel a tap in my shoulder. I look up to see the boy looking at the woods. He nods and moths the words now. He stands up and starts to run. I try to stand but I'm slower than him. I run faster than him and soon I'm in the lead. I push my body as hard as I can, running for safety. I dodge all of the debris and rubble and I look behind me to see other people have started to run as well. I smile and run faster than I ever have. All those years of track in high school and college really payed off.
I make it into the woods but I don't stop running. I run deep into the woods and I turn to see a big tree. I start trying climb it and my body twists around every branch. I reach the top in a matter of seconds and I look down to see hundreds of people running under me. I look around in hopes to find Shia part of the fleeing masses. I search for a tall blonde but I am not surprised to have no success. Even the boy from earlier has gone. I sigh and I lie down on a branch.
I feel like Katniss Everdeen hiding in trees, but that's what helped her survive. I look up at the beautiful turquoise sky and I watch the clouds me slowly past me. I watch as a dark smoke starts to cover up it's beauty. I frown and look away.
I start to hear two girls screaming and I look down. "Fire!" The scream running as fast as they can. "They set the woods on fire!" They scream as loud as they can. Soon only one word is on my mind.
Run.
