Briskly tapping the door knocker Rosalynn rocked her sleeping daughter gently in her arms as the wind whistled through the trees tops singing a lullaby rustling the leaves from their branches. The door creaked open spilling the candlelight out into the night, a sillhoutte stood in the doorway but she instantly recognised the woman and rushed inside wrapping her free arm around her sister. "Oh Trix, I'm so glad to see your face, I've been a wreck all night.'
The tall brunette wrapped her arms around Rosalynn being careful of the babe in between them "Rosalynn, what are you doing here? Is everything alright?" Trix pulled away from her sister and guided her into the foyer as she shut the door behind them."No, all is not well my dear sister." Rosalynn blinked back the tears that threatened to overcome her.
"It's the high council..and Leon sent me here an.."
"shhhh, hush now." Trix hushed rosalynn trying to calm her nerves
"Let us lay down Naydia in the nursery with Draefen then we will speak, I'll make you some tea, go hang up your cloak I will meet you by the warm hearth."
Rosalynn nodded and handed Naydia to Trix she watched her sister carry her upstairs before walking over to hang her cloak on the rack next to the fire place she stood in front of the blazing fire watching the flames dance as she thought about leon and the others. Was he ok? She could only hope and wait.
She felt a gentle hand on her shoulder and turned around to see Trix holding out a piping cup of tea, she grabbed the cup and greatfully took a sip. Rosalynn closed her eye as the hot liquid warmed up her throat and chest as she sipped.
" Blairs ginger tea recipe." She murmured from behind the cup.
"Yes, she made her tea mix earlier, I know it's your favorite. I thought it might help you relax."
"I feel warmer already." She gave her sister a weak smile and sat down beside the fire place.
Trix came and sat down besides Rosalynn taking her free hand in hers she look the in her almond brow eyes
"What happened Rose?"
Rosalynn put down her cup and grasped her sisters hands tightly
"The elder council, wanted Leon to kill naydia."
"What?!?!" Trix jumped from her seat and paced around the room.
"Why? She is just a babe? What about Dreafen?"
"I don't know, but I fear they would ask the same of Marius for Dreafen. Leon refused of course..he even discard his halo."
"Discarded his halo?!? Is he mad!" , "Where is he now? And Marius? And the others?"
"Leon sent me away not long after his meeting with the council he told me that he would be leaving with the others as soon as possible but he couldn't risk mine or Naydias life."
"I just can't believe it, our children are seen as monsters. Monsters rose." Trix sighed an sat back down next to Rosalynn.
"What will we do now rose?"
"I suppose we will go back to a life of hiding and solitude from humanity." She looked down at her hands and fumbled with her wedding ring. "At least..at least this time we aren't alone." She gave her sister a wry smile. "Our children will grow up together and will always have each other to depend on."
"I guess you're right about that, they are the same, beautiful and gifted..in fact they are perfe..." trix trailed off before looking at Rosalynn and smiling.
"What?"
"Rose, don't you see..our babes are perfectly matched for each other they would never be alone."
"What are you suggesting Trix?"
"I'm saying we should bethrothed them to eachother."
"Trix, you can't be serious, witches havent done bethrothal in ages and they are family."
"we are only coven sisters so they are not related by blood and I know the custom of betrothal was abandoned but this is a special circumstance. "
"Even so they are just babes still."
"They won't marry till they come of age of course rose."
"I know that..., but still what if then don't even like eachother?."
"Well if that happens they can decide whom they want to be with. On the other note a betrothal also prevents them using magic on eachother so they can never betray one another and if that's not enough they will always be able to find one another because we won't be alive forever, we are not like them or the angels We may possess magic but eternity is not with us."
Rosalynn had to admit that Trix was right about that, they wouldn't be around forever and if their children could always have eachother who was to say it wouldn't work out for the best. If anything a marriage between the two would ensure their survival and the survival of their history.
"Alright, we'll do it."
