I got on my train of thought,
The tracks go round and round,
And finally they go back,
Back to where they started.
I invited people on,
A few came on,
Then most got off,
And eventually, all left.
I looked outside my window,
To see amazing things,
Mermaids flying in the sky,
And stars mixed in the seas.
I closed my eyes and listened,
To hear amazing things,
Music notes and laughter,
And stories told out loud.
I turned to other passengers,
To share amazing things,
But I turned to empty seats,
And all of them were gone.
I drifted off to dreamlands,
And even in my sleep,
The train chugs on and on,
And never thinks to stop.
I wake up in the morning,
To repeat the day before,
Loving all the wonders,
Only on my own.
The train never thinks to stop,
And I never stop to think.
It runs past empty stations,
And I stare past empty seats.
I am on my train of thought,
I am never getting off.
Getting off means: face reality,
And there's no fun in that.
Lost in my train of thought,
I don't lose my train of thought,
In fact it's been so long,
Since I've forgotten to get off.
Round and round it spins,
On and on and on,
Eventually it crashes,
Resulting in a train wreck.
The things I thought were beautiful
Were only just a mess.
The things I claimed were mine
Belonged to someone else.
A new train comes now,
The tracks go round and round,
And finally they go back,
Back to where they started.
Author's Note:
Not all poems have to rhyme, and I think this one worked better without them. Please tell me what you all think! Thanks!
