My last lesson for the day was definitely my favorite one for each week. It was art.

Art was and is something special to me, because in a way it helps me connect to those who I've lost. Both, literally and figuratively.

Ms. Diane is one of the coolest teachers in our school. I mean, she lets us call her by her first name. Not to mention, she's only 20 so she "understands us".

She gave us a free period today, telling us that we could sketch or paint whatever we felt like as long as we didn't cause havoc in the class.

Swapping seats with Ava's partner, Aliyah, I carried my supplies and necessities to her canvas.

"Hey Ay," I greeted her, giving her a bump with my hip, "That rhymed!" I squealed.

"Whaffup, buch?" She said, her mouth filled with an entire Twinkie.

"Thanks for sharing," I rolled my eyes. It's no secret that we both have an unhealthy addiction to Twinkie's. We have to have atleast one every day. It's as if we wouldn't be able to function without it.

She chewed and chewed before she finally finished her Twinkie, "I thought ahead and got you two. You don't understand the amount of self control I had to have just so that I didn't gobble them up myself."

My eyes twinkled in awe as I looked at my best friend, Mr. Twinkie. I grinned and snatched it out of her hand, wasting no time in ripping open the wrapper.

I was halfway through stuffing it into my mouth, but it seems like luck just wasn't on my side today.

"Miss James, I thoroughly hope you're not eating in my classroom," she said, raising her eyebrow- but I didn't miss the hint of humor sparkling in her eyes, "Well, that is without me." I smiled, hopping off the table and walking over to me.

"Care to share, Violet? We all know I love Twinkies just as much as you do." She winked at me, reaching her palm out. I giggled and placed the untouched Twinkie onto her palm.

She squealed before getting back to normal and straightening her skirt, "Thank you, ladies. This was much appreciated." I smiled and winked at the both of us.

See? This is was I meant. Miss Diane is the epitome of cool teachers.

"I swear i love this teacher," Ava laughed lightly showing her perfect teeth, "Same." I giggled.

"So how's everything been? I feel like I haven't seen or spoken to you in ages." she pouted and turned towards me, "Do you wanna have a girls night tonight? Just like old times, it'll be you, me and Jess. We'll watch some movies, paint our nails, and gossip." She grinned obviously getting lost in her words.

"Sounds like a plan." I smiled, "What time?"

"You can come home by five or so, so that I can get the house ready."

"That sounds great," I gave her a soft smile and then gazed at her painting, "Oh my, Av. That's so pretty, what is it?" I stared at it in awe. Geez, my best friend is talented as fuck.

Her cheeks turned pink as she acknowledged my compliment, "Thanks, Vi." She glanced at her painting.

It was an array of colours blending together to form a face. A young child I think. The background was broken down and torn apart, yet the kid was vibrant and bold. Yet there was still a frown on the kids face, with a tear rolling down the cheek. His heart is clearly showing, and it looks hurt.

"I don't even know. I think it's showing us that while we might think kids are oblivious to their surrounding situations, and we think they're happy and full of life- but they still have feelings, and they still hurt because of these things that we do to them. It's a child in a war zone, trying to stay happy but he's really breaking on the inside. It makes me think of all the wars going on in our world today.

It's quite sickening actually, how these people can so easily target places and totally disregard the fact that there are innocent people- children in fact- in these areas." She while clutching her necklace. I frowned at my best friend, yet I felt a sense of pride at what she just said.

"That was such a grown up thing to say, Ava. I won't lie, you just made me feel proud to call you my best friend." I wrapped my arms around her shoulder, giving it alight squeeze, "I know it still hurts- but it'll get better." Her eyes glossed with tears but as fast as it came, it was gone.

"Thanks for being here, Vi. I really love you sometimes." We both giggled.

"Okay guys, there's like 3 minutes left so please start clearing your work areas." Ms. Diane said, going back to her own painting. She never lets us see those, but from what I've glanced at- they're amazing.

I closed my paint bottles, getting some on my hands. With the brushes in my back pocket, they were clean obviously, I put that and my paint into my locker- along with my other supplies. I didn't really paint much this lesson, so I just scrunched my half used paper up and threw it in the bin.

Ava was moving her canvas to the storage room, where we keep all our unfinished pieces for the night. The paint was fairly dry so there wasn't much of a problem.

"Ready to go?" Ava asked, rubbing her hands on her jeans. I nod, grabbing my bag and making my way to the door.

"Let's go get Jess from her locker and then we can discuss our plans during our free." I say, as Ava nods her head.

We share a silent walk to the locker, and find Jess against it with a boy in front of her with his arm on the side of her head. She laughs at what he whispered in her ear, lighting turning red.

"Holy shit, are my eyes working right now? Because I did not just see Jess, our Jess, blush." Ava said, stopping in her tracks. My reaction was just the same, my mouth left ajar as I started at the scene playing out in front of me.

The boy leaned forward and left a kiss on her cheek, turning Jess into an even darker shade of red. She closed her eyes, as if she was savoring the moment and she had a soft smile lingering on her lips.

The boy turned to his side and that's when we finally got sight of the culprit who seemed to have melted our best friends heart.

And it was non other than Theos' equally as bad ass best friend, Rider. Notorious for flirting with girls, bedding them, and then dumping them.

"What," I said.

"The," Ava said.

"Fuck." We said in unison.
