Chapter Six - Approval

"Lillian!" Henry yelled from downstairs.

"What?" I yelled back.

"You have no peanut butter," he replied.

"Why are you yelling this to me?" I asked.

"Why are you yelling back?" He yelled. "Come down here; I need to tell you something important." I sighed. This better be important.

I went downstairs and found Henry sitting on the countertop. He had his orange hat on backwards that he loves to wear all the time. In high-school it was one of his big signature looks. I've read in books where the smirk is the bad boy's signature look, but it's not for Henry. Now that we're all out of high-school I would think that he would get rid of that dirty old hat, but he apparently hasn't.

"What do you need to tell me that is so important?" I asked.

"I approve," he said; he then picked up a pack of Oreos and started eating them.

"What do you approve of?" I asked.

"I approve of you dating Noah," he explained, "I know your dad isn't around much, so I as your older cousin am making the approval."

"Henry, first of all, Noah and I aren't dating. Second of all, you are only six days older, so don't act like you're a few years older," I replied. He jumped down from the countertop and then sat on a stool at the bar. I sat across from him.

"Lillian, I'm still older. Also, I have a feeling that you like Noah and I'm positive he likes you too, so I'm just going ahead and telling you that it's okay by me to date him. I'm looking after you; you should thank me," Henry said.

"Thank you, Henry. You are the best older cousin ever," I said sarcastically, but Henry didn't take it that way. Actually, he is the best older cousin ever.

"That's a privilege; don't you have like five older cousins?" He asked.

"Yes, and they are all on crack or secluded from the world. What a great family, right?" I laughed. Henry let out a chuckle.

"What are you up to today?" He asked.

"Well, I'm going to the park..." I started.

"Can I come?"

"With Noah," I finished.

"Oh, you spend a lot of time with him. It will kill me if you two don't call each other boyfriend and girlfriend," he said.

"Yeah, just like it killed me when you and Beth wouldn't tell each other that y'all liked each other," I said.

"Okay, yeah, well I can do what you did and tell Noah you like him. What do you think?" Henry asked.

"We've basically told each other already; we just haven't acted upon the relationship," I said.

"Are you freaking serious? So, you've told him and he told you that y'all like each other, but you aren't dating? I don't follow here," he said.

"We didn't actually say the words 'I like you', yet, but he's asked to kiss me. I told him not yet and some other time. Something like that," I explained.

"I'm dying! Why aren't you letting him kiss you?" He asked. I answered him, but he didn't hear me. "What was that?"

"I've never kissed anyone before and I'm not sure how," I looked down because I was embarrassed. Henry was silent for a long time.

"Did you tell him that?" Henry asked after a while.

"No, I didn't," I answered.

"Well, I don't know how to help you with that. Once you kiss him you'll find out if you're good or not. You never really know. The first kiss is amazing if it's with someone you really like and you don't mess it up. After the first kiss you can kiss him whenever you want. If you are dating the guy," Henry said.
