Chapter Three - Let Me Hear Your Voice
"Hey baby," I hear my brother say in a huskily voice. I turn around and see he's talking to someone using my phone.
"Who the heck are you talking to?" I asked while trying to snatch the phone away from him.
"It's Rachel; now back off," he demanded. I was getting ready to meet them at the coffee shop soon. I wonder why she called me.
"She has a boyfriend and you know that," I said finally getting the phone back from him. "Hey Rachel, sorry about my brother; he's been like this since he's gotten better from his sickness a couple days ago."
"No biggie; I'm used to it," she replied. "I called to say that our coffee shop is closed today."
"No, it can't be. What are we going to do?" I asked with a huff and a puff. I smiled at my own thoughts. Richard looked at me like I was weird and I waved him off.
"Well, Beth said we should try out the coffee place downtown by that Indian restaurant," Rachel told me.
"Okay, same time?" I asked.
"Yes, same time," she answered.
"Awesome, I'll see you then."
We hung our phones up and then I went to my room to finish getting ready. I heard the doorbell ring. That must be Richard's friend. He needed company while I was gone. He said he's been bored out of his mind since he was sick.
I left the house a few minutes later after giving my brother an embarrassing hug and kiss goodbye. I gave his friend a hug too. I happen to be the last to arrive at the coffee shop. I bought myself a Frappuccino and then sat down with my best friends.
"Hey girls, what's up?" I asked.
"Not much," Tara answered.
"So, how are you and my cousin doing?" I asked Beth with a smile. She blushed at the thought of Henry.
"Well, he took me out to eat yesterday. It was a casual restaurant, which I was thankful for. I don't want him to go all out just for me, you know? After we ate we went back to his house. His parents are gone," Beth said. I interrupted her.
"Oh, where were they?" I had a right to know. They are my aunt and uncle.
"They went to the lake for a couple days," she answered. "Anyway, we watched a movie at his house and we held hands. Oh gosh! I still can't believe we're dating. If it wasn't for your help, Lillian, I don't think he would be my boyfriend right now."
"I know; you two were too shy to tell each other," I said.
"Don't look now, but I think there is a guy checking you out," Rachel said. I wanted to look so badly.
"Please do not try to set us up like you try every time a guy is simply looking at me," I gave her the puppy dog face.
"Don't worry, Lillian, I'm not going to set you up with someone who is not your type," she replied. Someone who is not my type?
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"The guy that was looking at you looks like a guy you explained to not be your type. He's ordering something now; you can look," she said. I looked in the direction of the front counter. A slight smile appeared on my face.
"Tara, scoot over," I whispered. She looked at me confused, but still did as I told her. I placed another chair between Tara and me.
When he was done ordering and received his cup of coffee he turned our way and I waved to him. I motioned for him to come over and sit down. I looked at my friends and they each gave me a quizzical look.
