Chapter 7
Bella's POV
As soon as we couldn't wake Halee up, we knew she was gone. Her lifeless body was just laying on the ground. We waited until he brought us dinner to tell him.
20 minutes...
10 minutes...
5 minutes...
2 minutes...
Time was up.
He came down here and looked at her.
"Wake her up." he said with his scruffy voice.
"We can't, that's the problem." Jo-Ann said knowing that my voice would have cracked if I would have said that.
"Try harder." he said. He kicked her hard in the side.
No sound came out. He went upstairs, still locking the door behind us. And came back with a knife.
"If she wants to play 'dead', she really will be dead." he muttered under his breath.
He first lifted her up and slammed her on the ground, and once she didn't move, he stabbed her in the thigh, because if she really was dead, that wouldn't have killed her. She didn't move one bit. Then when she didn't wince, he stabbed right through her heart. There was no life left in her. Even if there was, she would've been dead by the time the knife stabbed her ribs.
He took her body in his arms, and carried her up the basement stairs.
He didn't bother to lock the door behind him, he knew we wouldn't dare. Or did he?
Jo-Ann's POV
Me and Faith looked at each other with both of our eyes full of questions.
Should we walk up the stairs? Was he gone? Was it safe to finally leave this dump?
I heard his van start and the tires move fast across the gravel. Me and Faith exchanged looks again. We finally knew that it was now or never.
Every step that we walked up, my heart beat faster. I could swear that my heartbeat was at 800 beats per minute.
When we were finally at the door, Faith hesitated.
"What's wrong?" I asked her. Now was not the time to doddle.
"I just never thought that I was ever going to get the chance to leave here." she said, tears flowing down her face like a river.
"Me neither, trust me." I said. And honestly, I really never thought that I would.
She opened the door and I saw the yellow once again. A year ago, I always wondered why there was yellow everywhere. And here I am seeing it yet again.
We walked through the spotless kitchen, and out the yellow door.
The sun was so bright. But there was something wrong. Maybe it was just because I hadn't seen daylight in a long time.
There was a house, that was about half a mile away.
Me and Faith sprinted down the street.
After both of our lungs were burning, we finally stopped running. I would say me and Faith were about 2 miles away from that house that was half a mile from Gordin's. So all in all we have sprinted about 2 and a half miles. That's alot, for being cramped in a small basement for a year.
"I wonder when Gordin will find out that we weren't going to be stuck in his basement?" I gasped to Faith.
"Who knows?" she said breathing heavily. "Hopefully he gives us some time to run."
I heard a heavy sounding vehicle driving across the gravel. That vehicle sounded very familiar.
Me and Faith stopped running. We looked at each other. And then the vehicle suddenly stopped. We turned aroud, and there the van was, Gordin sitting in the front seat. He then turned his van off. He had us cornered. I knew it was inevitable. It was bound to happen at some time.
Faith and I looked at each other again. Then we turned and sprinted. I didn't bother to check that she was next to me, because her bare feet were slamming the gravel hard enough that rocks were flying everywhere.
Gordin started his van again. And I heard him rev the engiene. And heard more rocks fly, this time, I knew too many rocks were flying for just our bare feet.
I dared to look up and to my right, and saw that in about 100 yards, there was a farmhouse. I looked at Faith for a brief second, and knew that she saw it too.
We took off, faster, if even humanly possible. I couldn't even feel my lungs being on fire, all I could feel was my pounding pulse, and the adrenaline rush in my body, I knew my feet would pay later though.
Me and Faith were finally at the door. I couldn't even feel my fists pounding on the door.
He was just 200 feet from the house. He had all of us cornered.
A insignificant woman answered the door, she had cropped brown hair, a heart shaped face, and she looked like she was in her thirties or so.
I ran inside, knowing that Faith was right behind me, slammed the door, locked the doorknob, and put the deadbolt in place.
I turned to the woman, who was still in shock. And said:
"There is a man who is 200 feet away from us, and wants to kill us all!"
And Faith added casually, like we hadn't just survived a pshyco attack, "So, where are your collection of knives so we can defend ourselves?"
