Chapter One: Cage
She woke up, panting heavily as she tried to catch her breath back. Her wrists stung and her arms burned, yet when she tried to move them, a chain connected her to a wall, not allowing her to move more than an arms length. She stretched her legs, but felt a rope holding them down. Attached to what, she did not know.
Deciding it was best to move slowly, she ran her fingers up her arm, ignore the pain that shot through her body as she touched her forearm. A small group of letters and numbers were indented into her skin. Tracing them, She figured out what they said.
G147EY
The initials sounded familiar, and she attempted the remember what they stood for. It was then, that she realised that she had no memory of anything, not even her name. However, the first piece of information returned to her. Slowly, but it returned. EY weren't just some random initials, they were hers. This wasn't much help, as she didn't know what they stood for, but it was a start.
She couldn't see. Not because She was blind, but because the room she was in was pitch black. To try and get a feel of her surroundings, she moved as far as the chains on her wrists would allow her, until both her hands touched a cold, metal rung on either side of her. Moving her hands forwards and backwards, she felt more of these vertical bars, with gaps in between. The spaces were small, but big enough to fit her thin arm through. She took this as an opportunity to feel outside her cage. To the front, back, and left of her, she felt nothing but empty space.
Then to the right of the cage, her hand slammed on a hard surface: a wall. With a hiss of pain, she pulled her arm back. After the pain had subsided, She felt along the chains on her wrists. They were rusty, which meant they were most likely weak. If she could just use enough force, she might be able to smash them.
She flung her arm to the right, in hope of getting rid of the chains. They did not smash, but she could feel them beginning to crumble.
Ignoring the stinging feeling, and the liquid she could feel trickling down her arm, She hit the wall again.Once.
Twice.
On the third attempt, she heard a cracking sound vibrating off the silence, as the chains split and fell to the floor.
With her now-free hand, she pulled at the other chain, until it came apart like its partner. She was now able to use both of her hands, albeit that once was injured, and She took this chance to untie the ropes around her ankles. She shook her limbs to try and get rid of the numbness.
Moving round the cage, she felt up and down the wall, so if there was anything worth finding. After five minutes of searching in the darkness, she felt a block on the wall. A light switch. Without thinking about what she might see, she clicked the switch.
A blinding light covered the room, leaving the girl unable to see. Once her eyes had adjusted to the brightness, she sat and closed her eyes, not wanting to turn away from the wall.
After an hour of sitting in silence, a rib-rattling cough echoed around the room. It didn't come from her: she didn't want to see who it was, but she had to.
Terrified of what she might see, she slowly turned around. With a jump, the young girl screamed what she saw. Surrounding her were over fifty cages containing teenagers around her age. It was like a zoo; every cage had an unconscious young person, with their name and number hanging on a sign on their cage.
G008BR Brea Rhyne
A blonde haired girl lay face down in her cage, chained to the rusting metal bars. Her arms and legs were covered in bruises and scars. It was obvious that she'd been here a lot longer than G147EY.
G135LT Lukas Ty
In the cage next to Brea, there was a boy who couldn't have been more than fourteen years old. He must have been there longer than G147EY, but not by much. She could tell by his number, or that's what she assumed.
All around the room there were more cages with more people. But one in particular caught her eye.
G146RS Ryan Stress
An attractive boy around seventeen sat in this cage. His dirty blonde hair covered his hazel eyes, and his tight, ripped shirt didn't hide his muscles: in fact, it only made them more defined.
It wasn't his good looks that caught the girls attention. His number showed that he must have arrived wherever they were around the same time as her. But this didn't make him stand out either. It was the fact that he was the only person, out of the dozens there, who was awake.
