Ch. 4

FIRST SEMESTER ENDS; FIRST DAY OF SECOND SEMESTER

Mark's POV
Finally, new semester starts which also means Jinyoung can be my chemistry partner.

I entered the class, early again.

I sat at my old spot, waiting for the teacher to announce the new seating chart.

Jinyoung came in, "Wow, you're early. Again."

"Yep." I pinched Jinyoung cheeks.

We smiled and laughed.

He asked, "Hey, since we are able to pick our partners..."

"I know Jinyoungie, of course I'll be---."

"Can my partner be Jackson?"

My face fell, "What?"

"Yeah, I'm so close to asking him out. Maybe being his partner will be faster and easier for me to ask him."

I scoffed, "Wh-what about me?"

"I don't know. Be with Sana again. You get to choose."

"But, we planned to be partners since the first day of school."

"Yeah, planned, -ed. Past tense. Now I'm planning to be partners with Jackson."

How can Jinyoung be so selfish? Jackson rubbed his selfishness onto Jinyoung

If this what makes him happy.

I closed my eyes and relaxed myself. "Okay, go ahead. Be partners with Jackson. You are close to asking him out. The sooner, the better right?"

Jinyoung smiled and jumped, "Thank you, Mark! I love you."

He walked towards Jackson.

I mumbled, "Hmm, funny. Your love towards me is way different than my love towards you."

"Alright kids, pick your partner and have a seat." Mrs. Kim announced.

I turned to see Sana just sitting there while the others are searching for a partner and a table.

"Hey Sana, do you still want to be my partner?"

Her face brighten, "Really? Yes. What about Jinyoung?"

"Oh he's with Jackson now."

"That's strange. Do you still want to sit here?"

I saw Jinyoung and Jackson picked a table already.

I suggested, "No, let's sit somewhere else. Follow me."

We walked and sat behind Jinyoung and Jackson.

I talked loud enough for them to be able to hear me.

"Hey, wow. You guys are partners. That's really cool."

Jackson peeked over his shoulder to look at me.

"Um yeah, okay."

I mumbled, "Bitch"

"Everyone, open your journal and get ready to take notes."

I dug through my bag and I couldn't find my pencil.

I whispered, "Psst, Jinyoung, do you have a pencil that I can borrow?"

"Ask Sana. She's your partner for a reason." Jinyoung spat.

I imitated him, "She's your partner for a reason."

I asked Sana and she gave me a pencil. "Keep it."

"Thank you."

Chemistry ended, I slowly packed my things because I want to eavesdrop on Jinyoung's and Jackson's conversation.

Jinyoung's POV
The bell rang and Jackson asked me.

"I asked my teammates if you could sit with us during lunch and they are okay with it. So do you want to sit with me?"

I smiled, "Really? Yes! Finally. Last time you asked, they straight up said no."

I turned my head to the right. "What about Mark?"

Jackson forgot about Mark, "Oh there's only one seat and that seat is for you. Also, they don't like Mark."

"But Mark is my best friend. I can't let him eat alone."

"Well, you eat with him tons of times. One day without you won't hurt."

"But he doesn't have anyone besides me."

Jackson put his hand on my shoulder. "Well, you can choose to sit with whoever. I'm okay with whatever."

I just nodded.

Jackson walked out of the class.

"Hey Mark..." I said slowly.

"You want to eat lunch with Jackson?"

"Yeah, kind of."

I knew Mark was eavesdropping on us. He always does that.

He looked down, "It's okay. Go ahead. Like he said. One day wouldn't hurt."

I hugged Mark. "Thank you so much! You're such an understanding friend."

Mark's POV
Friend.

I'll always be his friend. Been his friend ever since we were babies.

We scrolled down the halls.

I asked. "So when will you ask him out?"

"After school."

"Today?"

"Yeah, he said he'll take us somewhere. So there's a chance for me to ask him out."

"Okay. Come over to my house when y'all come home."

"Promise. Alright, later." Jinyoung waved.

We went opposite directions to go to our next class.

I didn't have time to say see you later. I was too busy thinking about what would happen if Jinyoung is dating Jackson. Jinyoung will become more like him than he already is now. He wouldn't hang out with me.

Senior year has gotten worse and worse.
