It's funny how the smallest things can bring the most happiness. Aria remembered when she first met Kevin three years ago. She was at Golden Gate Park, a place she wouldn't normally go because of all the people and tourists, but it was a brilliant Sunday. School was only going on for one more week, and she couldn't wait to escape and read. She remembered bringing her old shiba inu and a book with her. Eevee was its name. Aria sat on a towel she brought and let her old friend romp around and play with the other dogs as she sat and read Looking for Alaska by John Green. It was one of her favorite books. There was so much symbolism and things she could relate to. As she read the book, she felt a shadow tower over her.
"Hi Eevee! How was your play time?" she said, not looking up to see who it was, no one really spoke to her.
"Ummm... Who's Eevee? I'm pretty sure my name is Kevin," said an awkward voice that most definitely did not sound like her dog.
Aria blushed and looked down and bowed out of habit, "Oh my goodness I'm so sorry! I thought you were my dog because no one really talks to me because I'm so awkward and no one likes me. All I do is read and I'm so sorry! I'm rambling. My name is Aria. What's yo- Wait don't answer that I'm sorry!"
'Awww she's so cute!' Kevin thought and blushed.
"Awww it's alright. I'm sorry for disturbing your reading. I could tell that you were really into that book," Kevin said sincerely.
Aria was shocked. She wasn't used to people treating her like that. As he spoke, she slowly looked into his eyes and saw a sparkle of sincerity, she has never seen in her life from anyone, except her family. It was strange. People would usually be mocking her, or making some joke. He was different.
"It's fine. I feel terrible for calling you my dog. I know this may seem rude, but what are you doing here?" she asked.
"It's fine, really. I-"
Aria thoughts were cut off as she heard Kevin get back into the car. He was dressed in black skinny jeans, black Vans, a tight black t-shirt, and a black leather jacket. He looked perfect to Aria. His dyed blonde hair looked amazingly soft and his slight guyliner made his brown eyes look amazing. Aria just wanted to cuddle with him. 'OH MY GOODNESS GRACIANIOUS WHAT AM I THINKING?! THIS IS MY NEW OLD BEST FRIEND!'
"Hey, what were you thinking about?" Kevin asked.
Aria rid herself of her thoughts and said as she started driving, "Nothing. Just some schemes for tonight. Ready for the most amazing time of your life?"
Kevin smirked, "I was born ready."
"You don't seem like it. I can tell by the way you're wiggling your toes and your eyes are becoming clouded."
"How the heck do you know that?"
"Just because I've known you for only a summer and most of an American school year, doesn't mean I don't notice these things. And I've had a lot of time to people watch at school, since I'm not the most popular person."
Kevin's face faltered. He could've done something, he could have stopped it. He was one of the most powerful students at the school.
"I-" he was cut off.
"Don't sweat it. It's been years since we've really reunited. I was always hiding. Your entourage of fangirls don't really enjoy my presence, anyway," she reasurred him. "Now let's go. We're here now."
"Ria, what are we doing at a park?...at night...in dark clothing...?" Kevin asked puzzled.
If there was something Kevin knew about Aria, was that she was unpredictable. At school and at home she was reserved, but when she was free, she was amazing. You could never predict her next move. But when he watched her... she was different. When they were younger, she never permitted herself to cry, not in front of people.
