  *RACHEL POV*
Once we got to the orphanage, I took a moment to look it over. It looked like the school off of Matilda. You know, the one where the principle hated children and locked them up in the chokey. To be honest I never really understood that woman. If you don't like children, then why in the hell are you a principle at a children's elementary school? Makes no sense. But, that's besides the point. After we drank it all in, we all got out and Rick and the short officer, whose name I still don't know, grabbed my stuff and led me inside. When we got inside a woman who was about mid-late fifty's greeted us.

"Well hello, you must be Rachel. I just wanted to say how sorry I am to hear about your parents. But, let me reassure you that my lovely children will make you feel very welcome." She said with a smile that made her seem like she was forcing herself to be this happy.

I smiled, what I hoped would be, a sweet smile. Or, at least as sweet as I could make it with the circumstances. She looked at me with an emotion in her eyes I've never seen before and couldn't quite understand. It was a strong stare that made me feel kind of uncomfortable, so I looked down at my feet to avoid eye contact. I'm not really the shy type of person, but there is something about this woman that just makes me want to dig a hole, crawl into it, and never come out. After this strange encounter officer Rick cleared his throat and asked if she could escort us to the room I will be staying in.

"Of course. Follow me." She said with that fake smile still on her face.

Once she started taking us through the hall and deeper into the orphanage I started to notice the lack of children. I wonder where they are? I mean, I would ask but she kind of scares me. So I guess I will just have to wait and see if any of them show up. A couple of minutes later we came upon a grand set of stairs that led us to the second floor.

"Alright your room is just up these stairs. That is where most children your age stay because it is a safety hazard for the little children to ascend and descend these stairs." She said in a kind of bored tone. Almost like she has said these same words over a hundred times.

We started to go up the stairs and once we got to the top I noticed that there were three different hallways. There was one directly in front of us, one on the left and one on the right. But that's not all I noticed. I also saw a door at the end of the hall that is directly in front of us. It doesn't really look like it's been used in years, and there is a sign on the door that says do not enter. Well now I have to go in there.

"Alright your room is going to be down the right hand hall. And the other children stay on both the right and left hand halls. The staff stay on the one in front of us. The children are not aloud down this hall, because most of the staff don't want you to go into their rooms where their personal belongings are being held." She says with a Stern voice. Basically directing her words at me.. bitch. like I want to go through the the staffs belongings anyway.

Once she turns around to lead us down the right hallway I roll my eyes and followed them to what will be my room. When we get there she opens the door and allows us to go inside. Now, I know what I have said about what this place looks like but this room is actually pretty descent. When you walk in, there is a bed on the wall on the left and a bed on the wall in front of us in the right corner. There is a window to the backyard in the center of the wall in front of us and a door that leads to what I'm guessing is a closet on the left wall next to the first bed. It's a pretty large room, and I'm guessing I have to share a room with another person according to the fact that there are two beds. The bed on the left already has bed cloths and personal belongings on the dresser and side table. So I guess that means I'm taking the bed near the window. I turn to look at Rick and point towards the bed I'm claiming.

"You can put my stuff on the bed and I will unpack later. Uhm... I-i would just like to say thank you for being kind enough to bring me here. I really appreciate your help. I k-know you didn't have to b-but you did so thanks." I say softly trying not to let the tears that are welling up in my eyes fall.

"Don't even worry about it kid. If there is anything you need all you have to do is dial 411, and ask for Rick Mackentire and I will be down here faster than the speed of light. Don't you worry, I'm sure you will be adopted in no time. Just promise me you'll take care of yourself; it's what they would want." He said referring to my parents as 'they'.

I cracked a smile and gave him a tight hug and say "I promise."

After all the mushy stuff was over I followed them down to the front door to say good bye. I watched them pull out of the long gravel drive way and then went back inside to be met by a pair of dark brown, almost black, eyes.

"Well how sweet. Now go back up to your room and unpack your things. Be sure to be down for supper at 7:00. And don't be late you little brat. Or there will be consequences." Mrs Tucker, the old lady, said to me.

See I told you she was faking. Old bitch. I make my way towards the stairs and when I know she isn't looking I roll my eyes for the second time since I've been here. I get the feeling that's going to be happening a lot.
