Alina's POV
Connor and surprised me by taking charge - if we were to have a traitor, I believed that he would be it. A Drew wasn't to be trusted, but a part of me felt that this Drew, could.
Pearilia was leading us to where the Refugee wing was. According to Delia, the Refugees had stood up against the Ministry but, when they had been rescued by the Reformation, they refused to take any sides. Maria was classed as one, but she didn't want to get involved and so, stayed inside her room.
Maria worried me. She and changed since being here. And I mean, changed. She wasn't herself at all. Normally, she would stick close to her brother or me and she had done neither - some thing about it still bugged me. It wasn't right.
But then I thought about Rysa and Maria was nothing. They had definately been getting closer lately.
"We're here." Pearilia scanned her eyes over us as she opened a heavy door that creaked and groaned. It was rusted and didn't seem to have bee opened in a while.
Clutching Connor's arm, I walked through, scared at what we might find.
"Who goes there?" A voice boomed, the noise escalating due to the large empty space.
"It's only me and some new Reformers, Matthew."
"What do you want?" The man named Matthew stepped out of the shadows as he spat his words at us.
"You're help." Connor spoke, his voice breaking on the last word.
"Oh, pfft. You don't need my help. You have your whole army. We want to live in peace and then we have the Reformation trying to get revenge and take something untouchable back." This man had a fighting spirit, I could tell. But, whether he chose to use it or not, was up to him.
"Violence isn't always the answer. We get that. Ask Connor our plan and you will see that we do not intend on anyone dying. You can live in peace, if only you help us to get it." I told him, truthfully admitting the feelings that I had held in for so long.
"Okay. You have me interested, now. Tell me your plan, son." He was a fatherly figure and I wanted to like him so badly, but couldn't help feeling betrayed. All of these people who could have fought for the right things were just skulking down here - and he was their leader.
Once Connor had told him the plan, he seemed a lot more than interested by our cause.
"Fine, we shall help if you promise that there will be no death."
"We can't promise that." Connor replied, almost echoing what I was thinking.
"I like your spirits. But, my people can decide on what they want - you have me in your side so, maybe I can convince some of them. But just be warned that there are families in there that won't want to help you."
I felt elated at that. We had them within our grip and soon, I could feel it, victory would be ours.
