She stares at me in disbelief.
Stays quiet.
Doesn't say anything for a long time. And that starts to worry me.
"This is a joke right? There's someone around the corner with a camera, waiting for the moment to capture a nice picture and plaster it all over the media. Right?" she says and laughs, wiping more tears away.
"What? No. There's no one here. I don't want to embarrass you, Kate. I..."
"What? You what?"
"I want you. To be mine."
She stares at me again and rubs her temples.
"I'm not-"
"Are you sure?"
Her cheeks turn pink and her eyes well up with fresh tears.
"You'll throw me away, like you do with all the other ones. You'll get bored of me."
"I promise, I will not get bored of you. You're far from boring."
Her eyes sparkle a little bit.
"I don't know what to say."
"Don't say anything."
"I have to. This isn't a conversation you can just... Leave unsolved."
"Well... How do we solve it?"
She starts pacing a little bit, rubbing her temples. I smile at that.
"Alright. Alright. Fine."
"Fine?" I ask, in confusion.
"One. One date. We'll see how that goes."
My eyes widen in shock and I smile, wanting to grab her and hug her.
"But...God. This is going to sound weird." she says uncomfortably.
"It's ok."
"You can hold me. You can kiss me. But I want you... I want you to treat me like I'm the only girl in the world. I've never dated anyone. Ever. I want this to be special."
I walk closer to her, wrapping my arms around her waist.
"You're more than special, Kate. You're absolutely amazing." I say, smiling.
Then I lean down, her mouth meets mine and I swear to god...
I've never felt like this before.
The bell rings, startling us both. She goes to jump out of my arms, but I hold her tighter. Flashes of kids blur around us.
"Hey, hey, hey, hey. It's ok. You can't care what they think. I don't care what they think." I say, still smiling.
Her smile back is genuine as she goes on her tip-toes to reach my height, her mouth meeting mine again.
