The Dragon

The dragon had always protected them, so why were the bad men after it? Their father was leading the bad men, which made no sense. He knew the dragon was good. He put them in the care of the dragon. The girls couldn't figure out how this could be.

And yet it was. There was their father, leading a mob of men with weapons toward the dragon-and the girls.

"Don't be afraid, young ones," the dragon whispered to them reassuringly, "I will take care of you. I will stop them."

But still, the mob drew ever closer, shouting and waving weapons and torches. The sisters were getting worried. The elder sister finally voiced their question.

"Why is father doing this? He put you in charge of us, so he should know to trust you," She stated.

"Sometimes humans do strange things, my dear, especially for power," the dragon replied.

The younger sister spoke up, "So he's doing this for power? I mean, he might win the townspeople's trust..."

"Exactly," replied the dragon. It curled around them defensively. The mob had arrived.

The dragon fought valiantly, knocking many townspeople away with its tail, and scaring them off while still defending the sisters. In the end, it couldn't stop them. The force of the townspeople brought it down, and it was slain. Its last words were to the sisters.

"I have loved my time with you, and I will cherish it beyond death. Please, save yourselves," it muttered out before its death.

The sisters, overcome by grief and rage, rose up to defend their friend's corpse, but their father was too strong. He defeated and killed them. They died together, as they were in life.

Later, their father claimed the dragon had killed them. It, he said, was to blame for this tragedy. Only a select few know the truth, and have kept quiet. The girls were buried near the dragon. It is said, that on a clear night when the moon is bright, you can see a ghostly vision of two girls flying a dragon across the night sky, laughing and enjoying themselves in death, no longer fearing their father.
