♕✿~♕✿~Chapter 24//: Where are you going?♕✿~♕✿~
Madison's POV
Lucas suddenly curses. I look in the direction he's facing and feel my pulse quicken. Nathan was walking towards here with a deceivingly serene smile.
Lucas looks around us, noting the emptiness between us and the fence. He turns to us with an urgent look in his eyes. "The coast is clear. Run for it," he tells us.
Damon and I don't hesitate to start running. But I stop when I look back and see Lucas still standing in the shadows of the building, facing Nathan. I look back at Damon running ahead and make a quick decision to run back to Lucas.
"What are you doing?" Lucas hisses at me. "Get away from here!" I shake my head and grab his arm, trying to pull him with me. He stays put.
"Lucas, come with us. If you stay here, Nathan will kill you," I plead with him. Even though Lucas had betrayed the royal family and I, I don't think I'd be able to live with the knowledge that I had left him to face his demise.
Nathan's closer now, and I can see the amusement clearly written on his face. He's enjoying this, and that makes my mind scream at me to run.
"Lucas, please, we need to go now." I pull hard on his arm, and this time he follows me, running alongside me. We run to where Damon has already reached the fence, squeezing through a small hole.
Lucas and I reach the hole in the fence just as Damon gets to the other side. He turns around and his eyes widen as he takes notice of Lucas. He looks at me questioningly.
"He helped us escape. If he stays, he'll die," I tell Damon, saying only that as my explanation as I push Lucas to go through the hole. He starts to pull himself through.
I look behind me and my heart starts to pound painfully as I notice just how close Nathan is. The scary thing was that he was walking leisurely, as if he believed this wasn't worth his energy.
Lucas pushes himself through the hole, and I waste no time to fall to my knees and push my body through the hole. The exposed wires get caught in my clothes and scratch my skin, but I ignore the pain as I pull myself out on the other side. I hear shouts from the Rogue Dawn members that realize exactly what is going on a little too late.
"Madison! Lucas! Where are you going? We still need to have a nice chat," Nathan yells at us. I don't bother turning around to look at him, choosing to instead run into the forest beyond the fence.
Damon and Lucas are by my side as we run through the forest. I didn't know where we were going to go, all I knew was that we needed to get away from Nathan.
That's when I heard it: footsteps running behind us. I glanced behind me as I ran, and my heart got caught in my throat as I recognized Nathan running after us, no longer walking. And even though he was far behind us, he was catching up fast.
A terrified sob escapes me as I continue to run with Damon and Lucas, my legs burning. I was scared, fearful, that Nathan would suddenly appear behind me and grab me.
"Get up a tree right now!" Damon pants to us. He runs away from us and up a tree, skillfully climbing up at a quick pace and hiding in the leaves overhead.
Lucas runs towards a tree, grunting as his injured leg hits the tree. He starts his ascent up the tree. The footsteps behind me continued to come closer.
I run towards the nearest tree and grab a hold of its trunk. A small hiss escapes me as the rough texture of the tree trunk rubs against my injured hands. I ignore the pain and force myself to climb up the tree as Nathan comes closer.
My descent is a slow and painful one. Each time I pulled myself higher up the tree, my hands screamed in protest. At one point, I felt a sticky substance on the palms of my hands as I continued to climb up. My wounds had opened up from the pressure and were bleeding again. I ignored it as best as I could and pushed myself to climb faster, my fear at its peak.
I barely climb into the covers of the tree's leaves when Nathan comes into view. He stops where I was standing seconds before, looking around and appearing dumbfounded at our sudden disappearances.
He looks up into the trees. Tears of absolute fear escape my eyes, and I bite my lip to keep quiet. His eyes pass over the tree I'm in, and then over the other trees. I hoped that the leaves and the dark night would make it difficult for Nathan to see any of us.
Nathan lets out a chuckle. "You know you can't hide from me forever. I'll find you soon enough. And then you're going to wish you never escaped my prison," he says into the night air.
He paces below me. "I was really looking forward to showing you something, Madison. But I guess you'll just get a front row ticket to see it. Make sure you're at Ahren's coronation, okay?" Nathan's voice echoes slightly in the silent night.
I breathe in and out quickly, trying to keep my breaths quiet. My heart pounds so loudly I think Nathan can hear it. Worry creeps in me as I recall what Nathan had told me before: that he would kill Ahren at his coronation.
I didn't know when Ahren's coronation would be. But I hoped it was far ahead in the future.
Nathan finally starts walking away, disappearing behind large tree trunks. I allow myself the chance to gulp in large breaths, my throat dry and burning from the run.
I don't get out of my tree, paranoid that Nathan is still hiding close by, waiting to catch me in his traps. It seems the others are paranoid as well because I don't see Damon or Lucas come down from the trees they climbed up.
Leaning my back against the tree, I think back on Nathan's words. I would have to be careful now to make sure I didn't end up in Nathan's clutches again. And I needed to get back to Archeon as soon as possible to warn Ahren of what Nathan is planning to do.
Because it seemed Nathan was intent on killing him now.

Can I just say...
HAVING BRACES FEELS HELLA AWKWARD
legit, the first day I got them, I was like "ok, I can do this"
And then I tried to eat and I was just so slow because it hurt slightly for my teeth to even touch. And then at night, I brushed my teeth, everything went fine. But then when I tried to use the floss threader thing....FLOSSING TOOK ME LIKE A MILLION YEARS. AND IT FELT LIKE EVERY TIME I FLOSSED, MY BRACKETS WERE TIGHTENING.
And I love Chick-fil-a so I tried to eat some on the second day I got braces...bad mistake
Alright that's all I've got to say for now, soooo have a good rest of your week!
