Borromley Potts,
My little racer,
My favourite part of Year 6,
was coming home to you,
all snuggled up on your new bed,
My new best friend.I remember the time,
You ran around the garden,
Your "funny 5 minutes" I used to call it,
You bounded around like a hare,
With your tongue out, flapping, flapping,
You were happy, smiling.I remember the time,
I set up jumps in the garden,
Out of plastic table legs and chairs,
You jumped over them with glee,
As high as they would go,
To claim your reward of treats,
And cuddles from me.I remember the time,
We entered you in a show,
'Best Bitch',
You took a poo in the showing ring,
And Mum and I howled with laughter,
You won a green rosette marked '4th place',
But 1st place in my heart.I remember the time,
When Dad and I took you to Pets at Home,
And farted in the car,
It stank to high heaven,
You've been the butt of the joke ever since.I remember the time,
You got mounted by a Cockapoo in the woods,
Standing there like nothing was happening!
Mum was terrified you'd give us puppies,
She got you the morning after pill,
And spayed the very same week.I also remember the times,
You growled at, bit me and others,
You pestered me for scraps at dinner,
You had your nose in the bin,
You stealing my spot on the sofa. But all of those bad times,
Never once altered my love for you,
Never once got rid of the good times said above,
And When you sitted for me when I dangled a treat over your nose,
When you ran in your sleep as you dreamed of your racing days,
When you wagged you tail as I walked through the door.I wish I could have spent longer with you,
And you didn't get old,
I wish stiffness didn't consume your joints,
And pain consume your heart,
I wish I could have said goodbye,
Held your paw and guided you.My large, expensive, vicious, lovely, friend,
You may be gone,
But the many memories will remain,
I'll love you forever,
And hope to see you again.
