Simpler Times

Can we go back to simpler days?
Where falling in love was simply a phase.
You held the door open for me to walk through,
And it was that moment that I fell for you.
You smiled at me as I slowly walked up
I twirled my hair, took a sip from my cup.
"Look natural!" I yelled in my head
"He sure is cute," were the words that I said.
You chuckled at me as I walked through the door
Realizing what I said, I kept my eyes on the floor
You followed me in and tapped on my shoulder
I stopped in my tracks, my temp ten times colder
I turned around slow, scared of lifting my gaze
Your hand under my chin slowly lifted my daze
I looked for the first time in your soft and warm eyes
And the words you said next came as quite a surprise
"I waited by the door since I saw you down the street,
I hoped I could hold it for you and that our paths would meet.
You are the most beautiful girl that I've ever seen,
All I want is to know you, the person you've been.
I understand if I come off a little too confident,
I've been told that at flirting, I'm simply incompetent.
But from the moment I saw you, I just had to know,
Is this girl that I'm seeing a figment, or no?"
He paused after that, and I could feel myself blushing
All I could hope was that I hadn't made something out of nothing.
Falling in love was so simple back then
You'd just close your eyes and imagine them
So, can we go back to the simpler times?
When all I had to do to fall... was stare into your eyes.
