The Adoption

The town of Arkmiville was full of joy and cheerfulness. Until one day, it had to be evacuated. No one ever figured out why, besides the mayor and his office workers. The only thing he said was to leave immediately.

My name is Starlett Skistull. I originally grew up in Arkmiville, but things happened. My mother and father passed away from some sort of illness. At least that's what I've been told. Ever since their deaths, I've had severe depression. It's hard to stay completely positive without having a family or friends. That's right. I don't have any friends nor any kin. I was always an antisocial kid. I guess that's why I don't have any friends..

Everyone who survived in Arkmiville was sent to Symphic Heights, which is where all the "happy, gorgeous, and wealthy" people live. I don't belong there, but I have no where else to go. I've been living in Symphic Heights for about eight years. Going in and out of homes, wishing to find the right family and house. Then one day, an delightful family had adopted me.

The parents' names were Kellie and Edward Arks. They had two kids. The daughter's name was Lunar and the son's name was Liam. Of course, they were twins. Both had light brown/fawn hair and olive skin. Lunar had green eyes, in which she got them from Edward. Liam had bright blue eyes, and he had gotten them from Kellie. The funny this is, I looked like them. I also have olive skin, fawn hair, and blue eyes. Maybe it's just a coincidence..?

A few days after I was adopted, (present day), I was told I had to go to high school. "You'll have to get a uniform from the office tomorrow when you get there. We have already registered you." Kellie said. I sighed heavily. I sat down on the couch and stared at my hands. "Lunar! Liam! Get in here! Now!" Edward yelled. I kept my head down. I haven't spoken with either of them since I got here. I wanted to avoid all eye contact with them.. They both ran into the family room to join us. "What do you want?" Lunar snarled. Edward rolled his eyes and said, "You both will show Starlett around school tomorrow." Lunar growled and sighed. "No." She said while walking away.

The couch beside me sank. I felt an arm go around my shoulder. I looked up to see Liam smiling at me. "Don't worry, dad. I'll help her. She is my sister after all," he said. I gave him a quick smile and looked back down at my hands.

"Alright, kiddos. Your mother and I are going to bed. Don't stay up too late!" And with that, Kellie and Edward walked away. All that was left was Liam and I. He turned to me and took away his arm. "Look at me, Starlett." he demanded. I looked at him with fear. "I'm not going to hurt you," he chuckled. "But I will warn you... Lunar is the most popular girl in school. She can make you the most hated person if she wants."

Suddenly, Lunar comes prancing into the room with a large smile on her face. "You're so funny, Liam!" she giggled. I looked back down at my hands. I knew what she had done. "You've already done it, haven't you...?" he asked. She laughed and laughed until she was out of breath. "Yep! Have fun tomorrow, freak." she laughed. I tried to hold back the tears, but they just came flowing out of my eyes. "Awe, is little Starlett crying? Oh, Boohoo! Ooo! This would make an amazing Instagram post!" She pulled out her phone and said, "Say cheese!" Before she took the picture, Liam jumped up in front of me. "Stop, Lunar! She has done nothing to you!" he yelled. She rolled her eyes and put her phone away. "Whatever." she mumbled.

"What's going on in here?" Edward shouted while walking into the room. I looked up with a sad look on my face. "Lunar is-" Liam started.
"Don't.  Starlett, tell me what's going on." He demanded. I looked over at Lunar. She had her arms crossed and her eyes were now slits with her eyebrows arched down. Then I looked over at Liam. He had been smiling an waiting for me to tell the truth.
"N-Nothing, sir.." I murmured.
Both Lunar and Liam's facial expressions changed. They had switched emotions.
"Are you sure?"
"Completely, sir."
"Okay, well, goodnight. See you all in the morning!" Edward walked back to his and Kellie's room and shut the door. "Good job, loser. Anyways, I'm going to bed. Bye."

I ran to my room and started to bawl my eyes out. I knew tomorrow was going to suck. She was going to make my life a living hell.
