What She Did

Chapter Fourteen (Last Chapter)

She took little steps. The wooden door creaked open, and a gentle thud could be heard on the front step. As she walked past, the guard men saluted her.

She cringed as someone made a grab for her ankle through the wooden pillars.

As she continued walking down, she could hear physical contact and screams of pain.

Then she stopped and turned.

Facing the door she had walked in from earlier, she leaned her head on one of the wood pillars.

"Hey Skiel," she said softly. "You and your sister can get out now; your bodyguards have come." She fitted a key into the lock.

She started to walk.

"And you two are just in time for the annual Xeno ball."

She left for the ballroom, picking up her trail once again and stepping out.

"We sincerely thank you, your highness, for what you have done." the Peoples' representative said. "They have begged me with tears of joy to convey their gratitude towards your highness."

"Tell them I have received their thanks, and that it is my duty." Shae nodded, smiling.

"Well, I won't keep you any longer from being a good host." he said.

The moment he turned his back, Shae started taking fast steps towards the backroom of the ballroom.

"Coleka, the door-"

She could hear the door being unbolted from the other side.

"Come on, let’s host the party together." 

Her face clouded.

"You have your glory and reputation to take care of." Coleka hid her face under the long fringe of her hair.

"Come on, you're meeting your new husband! After all, you weren't touched by Lukas and your mark was covered up with powder," Shae raised an eyebrow, "right?"

Without waiting for her reply, she grabbed her wrist and dragged her out, just in time to see King Xeno on the stage, in the middle of what seemed like a speech.

"..we now enjoy peace. For this, the second princess has the credit. With pleasure, I would like to announce that the Vince has joined our kingdom and the great Xeno has also joined theirs. As recognition of the bond, they have already asked for the hand of the elder Xeno princess for their elder prince, which has been agreed to. Their union ceremony will be held next month, and thank you for your attention. Please feel free to enjoy the food provided."

"See," Shae smiled to Coleka. "You're getting Skiel. Isn't that good?"

"What." Coleka managed to articulate. "What. You're even smiling. Go and join some theatrical group or something."

She turned to walk away.

"Come on, see, he came already." Shae grabbed hold of Coleka's wrist again.

"Why are you doing this to yourself?!" 

"No, just go and act even if you don't like him okay?" Shae replied quickly.

"No doesn’t answer my question!" Coleka sighed, as she turned. She was taking a second step in the directed of the Vince guests when she saw a wild movement from the corner of her eye.

She found her sister's eyes tinted with colour, wet trails growing vertically down her cheeks.

"Remember, Coleka. As a Xeno princess, you hold your people's trust. Don't make them think that we're all lying. They've been hurt enough."

"Stop being all that high and noble goody two shoes! You're making me feel bad, you..you.." 

Coleka stalked off.

"Come on, let’s go together!" Shae smiled, holding her hand, as they walked towards Skiel and his sister.

The distance seemed very short to Shae.

And when they reached, she smiled again.

"Hey there. Congratulations," She put out her hand.

His gaze fell on her, and for a fraction of a second she could see hurt in those grey eyes seemingly piercing through hers.

"Thank you." 

She felt his hand shake hers twice. Then they parted, the heat fading away. She took one last look at him, gave him another smile, and then she walked off; out of the ballroom doors and into the fresh air.

This isn't really the end of What She Did, as there is likelyhood of a sequel. 

As most of the storyline is from Shae's view, there are some parts seemingly missing. Like, what happened to Lukas? Yepyep. So I may be uploading what happened for some parts. 

Some say the storyline is too confusing. So I'll write it down here. (Spoiler alert for people who have yet to read the story!)

Their kingdoms were originally one whole kingdom. The Chryso, Vince and Xeno are brothers. The Chryso prince and the Xeno prince are twin brothers. The Chryso and the Xeno prince were competitors for the throne. So when the Chryso prince inheirited the throne, he did not like the Xeno prince and wanted to put him down.

Thus came the need for the Xeno prince to hide his children. The Vince prince was a neutral party, so he dyed his children's hair to look similar to the Vinces'. 

Shae befriended Lukas, saying she was Sadie.

Then, the kingdom was nearly wrecked with the constant war between the Chryso and the Xeno king. Thus, the kingdom was split into three. 

(If you didn't understand what Shae said to Skiel in Chapter 10, or what Shae announced in Chapter 11.)

Before the dispute between the Chryso and the Xeno for the throne, both liked one lady (Xeno's wife). At first she chose the Chryso prince but he was later violent towards her. Then, she was comforted by the Xeno prince, whom she later got married with. 

Coleka's father is the Chryso prince.

Shae's father is the Xeno prince.

(Therefore they look the same because their fathers are twins.)

And thus Coleka and Shae aren't real twins at all.
