"Mother!" Marinette yelled, fluffing her skirt over and over. She yanked on some red laced black flats, for she loathed stepping to heels. They always caused the back fo her feet to bleed. Her Mom pushed open the trapdoor to her room. "Yes, Honey?" Sabine asked with a confused expression on her face.
Marinette skidded around the unorganized bathroom, reaching everywhere for a hairbrush, some hair spray, and layered some light makeup. Being herself, she tripped over her garb and crashed to the tiled floor. "I'm late! Oh my gosh, Oh my gosh.." She babbled as she quickly got up and rushingly spun her hair into a bun, sticking a couple of golden Chinese hairpins into them.
This was certainly not the fairy tale beginning she was hoping for. "Mom! Where are my gloves! I can't find them! I'm-" Marinette tried to rush to the door as soon as possible, grabbing a pair of random gloves as she flipped on a coat. Her dress was very long, almost too long. The black polka dots splattered on the gradient red outfit. Rice white ruffles that hit the floor danced under the ladybug themed fabric, and the top of the garment was themed from the traditional Chinese cheongsam. That was, of course, requested from her mother, but Marinette had grown to appreciate it.
Working on this outfit took her forever. She slept late almost every previous night working on it, making her glad that her self made mask would cover the bags that plumped under her eyes.
Marinette quickly strapped the covering to her head, slightly limiting her lower and upper vision. This wouldn't be good, considering how clumsy already was. She assured her self that now wasn't the time to complain, she was already late for the ball. She threw on an old coat to protect her overly exposed back. It was times like these that Marinette hoped she had more money, knowing that most of her family didn't even have the extra cash to cover up the hind of her body.
The coat had hidden the entire upper half of her gown, inside her coat was a flower pin that her mother had given to her ages ago for luck. She pondered for a bit but clipped it to her waist anyway.
Waving her quick goodbyes, Marinette jumped out the doors of the bakery, the small bell ringing her absence.
As soon as her skin hit the cold wind of Paris, she knew that she couldn't make it to the Hotel without turning into an ice cube. Marinette doubted that her bike would work right on the clumps of snow that formed on the paths. Plus she didn't want to get her dress torn.
Sucking it up, she trotted down the path, her toes curling at the amount of the cold substance that slipped into her shoes. She barely made it past one block before she wanted to ball up by the fire, but Marinette was stubborn about her choice, she wanted to get to the masquerade, so one way or another she would need to suck it up.
As soon as she took another step forward, Marinette's knees buckled and her body slammed to the ground. This time, no one could catch her. Her mask was thrown into the snow in the process. She reached around to find it.
Suddenly, the situation resembled a miracle, a large limo pulled up next to her. Marinette's mind confusingly imagined it would be Adrien Agreste, the boy who played Prince Charming the last time she was in peril, but that idea was bizarre. Why would she even be thinking of him? Did she actually want him to save her?
The sleek black door clicked open, revealing yet none other than a smiling Luka.
"Want a ride?" He reached his hand out to help her up, and she gratefully accepted it, flashing a smile at him. His lips tilted up in return, satisfaction leaking through it.
Now, this felt like a fairy tale beginning, but Marinette was still disappointed inside for some unknown reason.
Marinette's gloved yet cold hand gripped onto Lukas warm one as they both sat down in the Limo. She beamed at him while he seemed pleased with himself. The moment was deemed 'magical; as no words were mentioned.
Yet, something was missing. Marinette was inquisitive about the position she was in, it was the feeling that something was astray, or something that didn't belong was there. But what was it? Every girl in her neighborhood would dream to go to a Masquerade with a rich boy.
Luka suddenly looked uneasy, as if there were something balling in his throat and waiting to be said. He had the, I desperately want to tell you something, expression pressed against his face along with his sweat. Marinette silently ignored it and stared out the window, blinking at every snowflake that would land in front of her eyes. She had never been so excited ever before.
Marinette's thoughts immediately zoomed to the blonde headed boy he ran into earlier in the week once more. Was she going to see him tonight? She weirdly hoped so, but at the same time, she despised the idea of meeting him again.
Her gaze shifted to the boy next to her. Uneasiness still lingered in his features. Marinette didn't know whether she should question it or leave him alone.
A glowing red was etched at the corner of her vision. "Oh! We're here!" Marinette exclaimed abruptly at the grand hotel half a block before her. On the night of New Years, lights were shining out of it like fire. Everything was decorated as people began to busily file into the main door. As soon as the limousine door unlocked, she thanked a startled Luka and tugged on the mask once more, then proceeded ran to the entrance, ignoring everyone on the street who gave her weird glances.
Marinette's shy personality miraculously exited as she went through the entrance. Everyone had veiled themselves, chatting about and mingling with each other. She concluded the people who entered through the main door were the people who weren't among the extremely high class, and the people who entered through the upper level of the room were of the rich and mighty. Because of this, Marinette didn't want to stop there. She wanted to make a real appearance.
Neatening her hair, she dug out the slightly crumpled lucky flower and pinned it to the side of her head.
She was going to need real luck for what she was about to attempt.
