Summer's Loyalty

You are a sweet, sunny haven

Why must you leave us every year?

Your gentle breath flits across my face lightly, like droplets of water

I feel your dazzling, blinding smile shine down on me

Your spirit cultivates, and plants burst into their full glory

But only when your presence fills the air

In the depths of Winter's realm, I think of you

You, Summer, are hope

When we are drowned in the icy mist, you lift us out

We yearn for you, a bright spot in the gray coldness of Winter's iron-hard fist

We wonder why you must fly away with the birds every year in a red-gold whirlwind

Letting your sister Autumn take your place, while she brings Winter along with her

But we never doubt you; for it is the yearly cycle-a repetitive story

After Winter recedes, you will return, ushering in the morning
