Riding in the back of a white vehicle, sitting on cushioned benches in the back, no windows, it was comfy but nerve wrecking. Where were they taking me? I felt the van come to a stop, two guys opened the door, grabbing my arms and dragging me up to a big building. Inside were isles of seats, girls only seated in them, they brought me up to the stage and announcing me. "This is the new girl. She will be staying here." He glanced around. "Col will show her around and teach her how things work."
The girl in the front was tall and slim, she had her arms crossed, on leg over the other with long dirty blonde hair. "Hey, don't you dump her on me!" Her blue eyes glared, not pleased at the man, she dressed casually with jeans and tank tops.
The men gave me a slide of paper that had my address and left me. Once the doors closed, I stepped down from the stage and Col, with her group of girls, came up. She crossed her arms. "Hey, I guess we need to call you something. Take your time but for now we will call you girl. So follow I guess."
She lead me the way outside, with her two friends behind them as she explained. "So welcome to the Hell community, we are stuck in this neighborhood with walls, no escape. We get a fund of $100.00 dollars every week, paid for my government I guess. We have our own grocery store and other shit. They gave you the address." She turned to me, holding out her hand. "Let me see."
Been given the sheet of paper, and read it. "Mm, you're next to Pan. The goth chick." Before I got a word in she quickly answered. "Don't worry, we don't stereotype to the point of depression, more like teasing."
I asked her, getting my paper back. "What are we? Why are we here?"
She cut in. "What do they want? Yeada yada. We don't know, only we're the misfits, the unwanted ones." Turning to face her. "The broken ones." Coming to a stop. "The ones that woke up." I stopped, staring into her eyes questioned. "We are the ones that woke up yes." She came up closer. "We have no memories of who we are. But we one day woke up with no recollection of how we got in a home, with a family treating us all like maids." She continued walking. "We have a town hall, which was a building you were in. We also have a dance hall, and there is several clubs to join. They are posted when and where at town hall."
They came up to a clay red colored house, she stopped and turned. "Here we are, your house. To the left is Pan, to the right is empty. Have fun." She walked off with the others.
I looked over the house, it was like any normal house. I walked up the stairs to the deck and went inside, the house key were hanging to the left. I took them and shoved them into my pocket. There was even a second floor, kitchen was down the hall, across from me, passed the door to the basement even, and to my right was the living room, open concept to the dining room and to the kitchen. "I see. They want us to live here for good." She opened the fridge, it was stock piled with food and drink. "To help get us started. This should last me for the beginning until I get good amounts of income."
I walked out, looking around, I spotted a tall pointed building, walking inside noticing it was a library. Couple of girl were inside. One was throwing a knife into the table, then taking it out to do it again as she singed. "My daddy was a good boy." She had short black hair with a blue streak to the left, she liked wearing beanie hats, specially the dark blue one. "But he fallen into a bad crowd." Also liked wearing her black sweater. "One day they sacrificed his soul to the devil." Had a nose piercing, and top of her ears. "And gave birth to the anti-Christ." I walked slowly around her, she was sitting alone. "Oh papa. Oh papa, lie to my face." Her voice wasn't bad at all, her cyan eyes looked up to me. "Am I the wrong child that gave into faith."
She sat up straight more. "What are you looking at, newbie?" I came up to her, standing on the other side of the table. She pointed the knife at me. "Did you want a piece?" She chuckled. "Like maybe.." She put it to her hair." I lock of hair or.." Then her wrist. "Need a hand?" I watched her. She chuckled and put the knife down. "Geez, can't take a joke doll?"
"I was listening to your song. You have a lovely voice."
She 'tsked'. "Yeah no shit I was singing." She got up. "Names Pan. You're the new girl next door to me I take it?"
I nodded. "Correct. My name is Nirvana."
She nodded. "I'm impressed. You already have a name do you? Most of us takes least a whole day or more time to really settle with one. Let alone you just entered the library, the only place with a book of names. In which I have been here since town hall, so how did you know of it?"
"I remembered that name, just now as you singed that song, it had came to me."
She shot up. "Woah, woah, wait. You're telling me you remembered something? That's impossible, none of us can remember anything! No matter how much we meditate." Coming around the table to me. "That's awesome. I have a pretty good feeling I should stick with you. I want to see what else you remember."
I shrugged. "That's understandable. I don't know how I remember, but I'm the new girl, and I need someone to hang out with."
She smirked. "Ah girl, we can be friends yeah. Let's go look at the clubs, see what you want to do, get to know more girls."
I followed her out to the town hall. "Where are all the boys?"
She snickered. "There are none. They keep us apart, my guess is to save them on the next baby boomer decade of misfits." She opened the door to let me in. "Who wants the impure to bred more impure? As well as pregnancy pills are pricey. They want to keep them more for the real world."
"I see. Makes sense, don't want that since we can't afford it, let alone keep the child probably." I looked over the board with paper.
Pan came up. "Have a look and see what you like." Hearing her name called away by another girl, she walked off.
I looked over the clubs, went for the meditation club until a I saw something down the hallway move. I leaned to my left to see, a boy with white hair just disappeared into a room. "Boy..." I followed him down the hall, looking into the room, but no one was in there.
"Oh, hello." A young adult women was looking through her papers, turning to me. "Are you a new girl? Do you have a name yet?" I nodded. She smiled and came over. "I'm the consular here. Mrs. Bright. Call me Cheryl though." She shook hands with me, they were utterly soft.
"Nirvana. Um, did you see..." I paused, knowing I'd look crazy to say there was a boy here.
She blinked, confused. "See what darling? Its okay, you can tell me." She sat down. "I've heard it all."
"um.. promise me you won't call me crazy but, I saw a boy walk in here."
She was more questionable now. "A boy? Why surely someone had told you, that there are no boys here."
"Yes I know!" I calmed myself. "Sorry, I didn't mean to raise my voice I... seeing him... I felt like I had to chase after him."
"Its okay." She passed me a paper and pen. "Write me down your number and we can set up appointments."
I shrugged. "I'm sorry, I don't know my number. Wait we have phones?"
She nodded. "Yes, but they are limited to this neighborhood only. You can't contact anyone outside. If you don' know it that's fine. Its written on the phone, but at least write down your address so I can come to you at least."
"Sure." I wrote it down and slide it back to her. "Any preferences of tea or coffee? I'm not fond of either, but I think I'll start drinking them."
She smiled as she took the paper. "How lovely, I never had such a nice girl come into my office, the others tend to be more moody or try to joke around to hide the pain, or dig it in deeper. I understand, I was one of you girls, woke up, was locked in here all for eternity, even now I am still stuck here, and you girls will be to."
I stepped back. "Can't be... Is that all they're going to do with us? Just leave us here to die?!"
She got up. "I'm sorry Nirvana, you like so many of the other girls had this same reaction. So if I were you, I'd just accept it and get comfortable, because we're going to be here for a very long time."
