Cook
I was startled by the sound of my alarm. It was 7am and college, I mean school starts at 8. Ugh, I'm not a morning person at all. My dad said that he was going to drop me to school. It's a 5 minute drive from his flat to the school, so that gives me 45 to get ready. I'm really nervous about my first day in an American school. Is it different from college in Bristol?
I got out of bed and got ready for school. I wore a pair of white jeans and a black polo shirt. I did my hair then open the door to go into the kitchen.
I checked for food, but there was none. Seconds later while I was sitting on chair by the table, my dad walked through the door with white plastic bags in his hands. "Where you have you been?" I asked. "I went out to get you some stuff before school. I hope what I got is ok." He placed the bag so that I could look inside.
When I looked inside there was breakfast foods like cereal, eggs, hotcake mix. He also bought stuff to make sandwiches. In the other bag was school supplies.
I kept looking inside to see if he bought what I really wanted."Oi! What, no beer?" I asked. "You're not in the U.K. anymore James. It's illegal. You can't drink until you're 21." He explained.
What! No alcohol? Bollocks!
"Ok. What about my spliff?" I asked. I could live without the alcohol but not my drugs. "Yes in some state including here, but I won't allow it under my roof." He demanded.I didn't say anything. I'm really upset right now, but what am I supposed to do.
I grabbed the bag with the school supplies and went to my room with it. I opened up my school bag that I had and put the stuff that I thought I needed in there and came back out.
It was time to go. My dad and I walked out the door and into his car. After 5 minutes later, we were at my new school. He parked the car but did not shut the engine. He then turned around to face me, as I did the same.
"Be home by 8." He said. What? Is that all he has to same to me? "Ok. Is there anything else?" I asked. "No. Get out, I gotta get to work." I did as I was told and left.
I really don't know what my dad does for a living. What he does to make sure there is food in the house. He wares a suit, so that's a start to figuring out what he does.
What does someone who lives in L.A. and wears a suit do?
Agent? Lawyer? No way he could be a lawyer. I heard the first bell ring, so I ran to the door. The school hallways were empty by the time I got there. Great. First day of school and I'm now lost .
Behind me I heard the doors opening and closing. It was a man, maybe in his 30's. He looked like a teacher.
"Excuse me sir, I need help getting to the main office. Where is that?" I asked.
"Follow me." He gestured. I walked behind him like a lost puppy, which i was. We didn't talk on the way to the office.
He and I both went in into the office door. I was now at the desk. "Hi, um I'm new here and I was suppose to come to get my shcedule and locker combination." I told what I was assuming was the secretary. " Can I get you name please?" she asked. "It's James Cook." She started typing on her computer, then I heard a nosie come from the printer. She stood off a chair and went to the printer to take the paper out . She wrote something on it and then handed it to me. She also hand me a rule book. Ugh! Again with all the fucking rules. "Welcome to Belmont Mr. Cook." She said to me with a warm smile. That didn't make my nervouseness any better. "Thank You." I said then walked out the door.
