Later that night, as i walked down the hallway that held our bedrooms, I wondered at the reason for Keith's indifference towards me today. I wanted to talk to him, to catch his eye after dinner; but, he was good at blocking me out. TOO good.
Sighing, I reached my room door and leaned my forehead against the cold metal, trying to dull the growing ache in my brain. Brooding over my own thoughts, I didn't notice the approaching figure from down the hall, blending subtley in with the shadows left by the darkened light fixtures. I didn't notice Keith until i felt his breath at my nape. Spinning, I stared down at his wide, purple eyes and smiled slightly. Hw returned the expression, along with a nervous-sounding giggle. My eyes widened slightly.
'Keith....GIGGLED!?!?'
I held back a grin and made eye contact.
"Hey, Keith. How're you??"
A faded blush brushed the slightly-shorter male's cheeks as he murmured, "Better, now that you're with me..." My face flared with heat.
"Ummm...." I rubbed the back of my neck nervously. "Uh... Thanks... Keith..."
Averting his eyes, Keith frowned slightly, his cheeks bright red now. "No problem, Lance..."
And then he was gone, walking slowly down the hallway. I nearly called out his name, then regained my senses. Shaking my head, I couldn't help wondering why, exactly, my heart wouldnt stop thundering in my chest, what the thought of Keith even closer than a moment ago did to him - mentally AND physically...
And what these new emotions were as they fluttered inside his stomach.
He entered his bedroom, still asking himself endless questions, and second-guessing himself about Keith and the feelings that had been riled up inside of his heart.
The last question he asked as he fell asleep was simple, yet left him smiling and confused as he lay, tired after a long day's work:
'Was this LOVE??'
