kitty woke up as the sun slipped into her room. the smell of bacon found its way to her, and she felt her stomach growl. throwing the covers off, she made her way into the kitchen. her mom was making pancakes and bacon, her father was sipping coffee at the table, and tommy was watching cartoons. it was a lazy sunday morning, and it couldn't be more perfect.
"hey mom?"
"yeah?"
"can i invite julie over for breakfast?"
"sure. go ahead and call her."
kitty picked up the phone and dialed julie's number. it immediately went to voicemail.
kitty felt her stomach churn.

julie was acting a little odd yesterday... oh god, i hope everything is okay

"mom? she didn't pick up." kitty said.
"oh well."
"but, mom, she was acting kinda weird yesterday. she called me last night, but i couldn't get to the phone in time. she normally calls again when i don't answer, but she didn't. so i called her back, but it went to voicemail. like today. can i bike down to her house and just check on her?"
kitty's mother turned from her frying pan. "sure, if that makes you feel better. be back by 9, though. we'll save you some bacon." she winked, and resumed cooking.
it was 7:52, so kitty had plenty of time. "thanks mom. oh, yeah, good morning dad!"
he looked up from the paper. "good morning kit."
she smiled, and headed out the door.

pedaling down the road, she zoned out. she'd gone this way so many times, that she didn't even need to think about the way there.

soon enough, kitty was at julie's house. it had always amazed her how julie could have such a shitty mom, but such an amazing house. it was nearly a mansion.
she kicked out her bike stand and left it in the yard. she knocked, but no one answered. she tried the handle, and it was unlocked. odd.
she walked in, and heard nothing. "hello?" she called out.
there wasn't an answer.
she carefully made her way towards julie's mom's room, and she saw her asleep in the bed with another man. kitty rolled her eyes. she then went up the stairs, and found julie's door shut. she quietly knocked, but got no answer.
kitty edged the door open, and saw julie asleep on the bed, curled up under the blankets. pushing the door closed again, she slowly walked over to julie's bed. "julie?"
julie mumbled, and rolled over. one of her cheeks was tainted red, and she had bags under her eyes.
kitty shook her, and her eyes shot open.

julie scrambled back, still groggy. she thought it was her mother, but, to her surprise, it was kitty.
she relaxed. "hi."
"julie, why didn't you wake up when the phone rang?"
"oh, my mum disconnected it."
"oh julie... i'm so sorry." she said.
julie smiled faintly. "it's okay."
"no," kitty frowned, "it's not. don't pretend like it is."
julie sighed, and nodded in agreement. "i guess. now, why are you here? not that it isn't a nice surprise, i was just wondering."
kitty sat on the edge of the bed. "i wanted to know if you'd like to join me for breakfast."
julie closed her eyes. "why not," she sighed. "gimme a minute to get ready, though."
kitty hopped up. "sweet. hurry up, i'm hungry."
julie groaned and delicately pulled herself out of bed, and grabbed a sweatshirt out of her drawer. she turned with her back to kitty (modesty, yknow?) and pulled off her shirt.
"julie."
julie stopped immediately. she yanked her shirt back down and bit her lip.
kitty didn't say anything, only made her way over to julie and stood silently behind her. julie squeezed her eyes shut, as if she was a little girl, trying to disappear.
she felt kitty's fingers make their way around the hem of her shirt.
"may i see? please?" julie didn't move. the two stood there for a few seconds, until julie gave a little nod.
kitty carefully pulled the back of julie's shirt up. "oh my god...," she whispered. her fingers lightly traced along the marks. it hurt, but julie didn't want kitty to know.
"julie... god, i though you said that your mother got help, and that she went to therapy. i mean, i'm not mad at you for lying but i just wish you had told me."
julie felt a tear slip down her face. "i'm sorry."
"no, julie, don't be sorry. please." the words barely came out in a whisper.
julie bent her head low, and let the tears spill over her cheeks.
kitty couldn't stand to see julie cry. an idea popped into her head, and she hoped it would work.
kitty softly pressed her lips against julie's back, and continued the motion everywhere that the skin was bruised.
julie tensed up, and felt that strange feeling in her stomach again. her head also felt light, and her whole body seemed to tingle. a wave of relief washed over her.
kitty rolled julie's shirt back down, and began to play with her hair. she pulled it from the messy ponytail it was in, and began braiding it.
julie felt her breath coming in short bursts, and her whole body was on edge.
kitty tied off the braid, and slowly turned julie towards her.
"hey," kitty gave a little smirk. julie was still in shock.
kitty took the sweatshirt that julie was holding, and unfolded it. "go put this on, mkay? then we can head to my place and get some food in you."
julie took the sweatshirt and walked into the bathroom, locking the door behind her.
as soon as the door closed, she wanted to scream.

kitty just... kissed my back.

julie quickly took off her shirt and pulled the sweatshirt on. she took a deep breath to calm down, and stepped out of the bathroom door.
