There's nothing in our way
It was early when he awoke. Nassau heat was trapped in his hut and just refused to leave him to have his sleep. Grunting, he swung his legs over the edge of the makeshift bed he was laying on and stepped on the dark floorboards that screamed under his feet. Deciding he had no other choice but to leave the heat-ridden, small space, he made his way over to the shore, where his hut was basically at, once he armed himself.
Sand grains made his steps silent, but he made no effort as he lazily dragged himself down the shore. His throat was dry and he was eager for some rum. Seagulls that stood on his way set off with haste as he neared, making a way for him until they were all shooed away. Only sound he heard was of waves splashing in repetitive motion. As he glanced off towards the horizon, he spotted his ship, the Jackdaw. It was peacefully swinging in the morning breeze, a few of his faithful men around it, on the shore.
He was about to turn his gaze away, but his name rung out in his ears. ''Edward!'' a somewhat feminine voice called, said man instantly knew who it was. Turning around to face the owner of the voice, he spotted a rather small frame approaching him.
''What is it, Kidd?'' the Assassin asked, his voice still hoarse and throat dry. He just itched for a flask. But as soon as he spotted a silvery envelope in his hand, hair on his neck stood up from excitement.
''A letter for you, Kenway. A messenger gave it to me this morning, saying how he had trouble finding you, and he was in a haste today.'' Edward eyed the letter with eagerness, seconds turning into minutes in his head the longer he waited to get his hands on it. Until Kidd said something he was not quite ready for and torn him from his thoughts. ''I didn't know you had someone on the side, Captain. And all the way from Havana.''
A snarl formed on Edward's lips. ''Oi, you little bastard. Didn't your father teach you not to look through what's not yours?''
''But we're pirates, Kenway. That's what we do,'' the other pirate smirked. Giving up, Edward opened the envelope with care. But Kidd just wasn't ready to leave him to his devices just yet.
''Piss off, Kidd.''
''Willing to share a story of this lady?'' Edward eyed the fellow pirate with slight uncertainty but it didn't take him long to decide that he can trust him. After all, he was the first of the few that believed when he hit his lowest. Sighing, Edward began walking towards a bench not far away from the shore and sat down, fiddling with the letter, not opening it up to read it yet. Kidd followed his actions suit, seemingly impatient.
"[name] writes me almost every day," Edward began, his eyes content and compassionate as he faced the ground. He swung his hand over his head and the white, heavy hood slipped off revealing his sandy blonde hair.
The envelope in his hands radiated off a sweet aroma that caught in Edwards nose as his breaths grew slow and relaxed. Truth be told, Edward wasn't the finest romantic out there. Rugged, tan face and body were suited for wielding a pistol, not a quill after all. But that did not prevent him from being devilishly handsome. And because of his many duties as a privateer and now an Assassin, he did not get to write her back as frequently. However, that did not stop [name]. Her letters constantly reminded him of how she restlessly awaited his return and how she longed to hear of his journeys. "She's never got to go places, besides Havana." Whenever Edward did take out a night to write a letter of his conquests, [name] would just hopelessly fall, heart skipping with excitement.
"Take her with you then," the other pirate said during the long pauses in between Edward's thoughts.
"You don't quite understand," Edward chuckled with a hint of sadness. He ran a hand through his hair as he spoke again. "It's unlawful."
