My Father's Secret

Chapter 13

"I must protect soccer!" The captain shouted, his avatar floating gracefully above.

Shindou and Tsurugi dove in to get the ball, resulting in an avatar battle. Suddenly, the Coach of Tsurugi's team requested to end the match and the two broke apart from the battle.

"Are you trying to run away?" Shindou shouted after them as the team walked off the field.

"The presence of your avatar has prevented your soccer club from being disbanded. That is why we are withdrawing" explained Kuroki, Tsurugi's coach.

While the team was still in confusion, their captain collapsed to the ground, bringing everyone's attention away from Tsurugi and his team.

He must have exhausted himself. He doesn't have complete control over his avatar and it must have drain a lot of his energy.

Coach Kudou stepped in and took action calmly. He took Shindou to the hospital and Kirino-san followed him. At least for now, the soccer club was saved.

"Tenma!" called a voice belonging to a girl.

"Are you alright?" the voice asked.

"Aoi! What are you doing here?" Tenma replied.

"I'm joining Raimon for my first year"

"Crap! That reminds me, I was so busy focusing on the game I forgot all about the opening ceremony!"

"Oh yeah! We should hurry!"

Hearing the conversation, Kimiko realized that she had forgotten about the ceremony as well.

"Kimiko! Let's go together!" Tenma called.

"I completely forgot about it too, the match was just so exciting" she replied as she ran over to Tenma.

"Aoi, this is Gou-Ichinose Kimiko. We both live in Kogarashi manor. Kimiko, this Sorano Aoi. She and I were childhood friends" Tenma explained and introduced the two girls to one another very briefly.

"Nice to meet you" they both said and shook hands smiling. Kimiko could tell almost immediately that the two of them would get along.

The three made it just in time for the opening ceremony. A second later and they would be late. They took their seats in the auditorium and listened as the Principal spoke to the school.

Suddenly, Tenma felt as if someone had poked him in his waist. To his surprise, someone actually had. It was a boy much smaller than him with spiky hair and pink cheeks.

"That match this morning was really exciting"

"You were watching?"

"Yeah! I want to join the soccer club!" the boy shouted a little too loud, causing half the room to turn in his direction. When he realised that, he quickly sat down with a red face.

"Let's play soccer together! I'm Tenma, what's your name?"

"Nishizono Shinsuke!"

The instant the bell rang that afternoon, Tenma and Shinsuke dashed out of their seats and headed for the soccer building immediately. They were going to join the soccer club and that was final.

Kimiko and Aoi giggled as they followed Tenma and Shinsuke to the soccer building.

"Those two sure are very enthusiastic about soccer" Aoi stated as they walked down the hallways together.

"But there's lots of problems going on in the soccer world right now"

"Really? I had no idea. What kind of problems are you talking about?"

"It's hard to explain but if you're involved long enough, you'll understand. That's why I plan to join Raimon's soccer club as manager. I want to help heal Raimon's soccer club because it's important to me that Raimon's soccer still exists" Kimiko explains.

"Wow! That sounds amazing. I want to help too. Why don't we both join as managers and support the soccer club as much as we can?"

"Yeah! Let's do it!"

Arriving at the soccer club room not long after Tenma and Shinsuke, the two girls witnessed the drama and tension in the room. The club was in pieces, far beyond repair. The thought of bringing the soccer club back together was going to be harder than the girls had thought.

One by one the players and managers left. They were quitting. Tenma tried to stop them from leaving but his efforts were in vain. There was no bringing back someone who had given up on soccer. It just wasn't possible.

In the end, all that was left were nine players, including captain Shindou who was sitting quietly in the corner.

"We want to join the soccer club!" Tenma announced.

Murmurs started going around among the remaining players.

"What are they thinking, jumping into a sinking ship?" some said.

"I'm sorry, but as you can see, there is no more soccer club for you to join. Please leave and never come back here again" Shindou replied coldly.

"Wait, Shindou-kun, why not give them a chance? I they want to join the club, you should allow them to join" Haruna-san said.

Turning to Tenma and Shinsuke this time, she continued. "You can join the soccer club, but you must pass an entrance exam. It will take place tomorrow after school at the soccer field"

"Thank you so much!" Tenma and Shinsuke thanked her excitedly.

Tsurugi is causing so much trouble I can't wait for everyone to see his other side.

Kimiko is planning to join the soccer club as a manager. How will this change effect the outcome of the club and it's players? Also, how does Kimiko know so much about avatars?
