You're worthless. It's just a stupid phase. You're an absolute piece of shit that doesn't deserve to have friends. Because you're fucking gay.

Those are just some of the words that were thrown at Cyrus daily, whether it be from the kids at school or his father. Everyday, he was verbally abused. Cyrus wished it would just stop. He wanted to be able embrace who he was, without having to worry about what anybody had to say.

Not only did he have to deal with getting bullied, he also had a crush on his best friend. Jonah Beck. But he didn't have a chance with him. Jonah was straight and had a crush on Andi.

Cyrus couldn't help it. How could you not love Jonah? His smile could light up the darkest room, he had the most adorable slang, and he was always there when Cyrus needed him. This was more than a crush. This was love. Love that he wasn't supposed to feel.

Cyrus walked into the high school with his friends, Buffy and Andi. This was going to be a bad day, Cyrus could feel it. Just because of the fact that it was raining. Any day that it rained was a bad day.

The two girls kept walking, but Cyrus stopped. He got distracted looking at Jonah. Something was different about him. Was that...a lip piercing? It was. And it was just another thing for Cyrus to add to his list of things to love about Jonah.

"Sup, Cy?" Cyrus nearly jumped when Jonah approached him.

"Oh, uh n-nothing. I-is that new?" Cyrus asked. Jonah smiled, running his fingers through his hair.

"Yeah. Do you like it?" Cyrus nodded. Their conversation was interrupted by Kip. Cyrus' main bully.

"Really, Jonah? You're still hanging out with this fa-"

"Fuck off already. I'd rather not let Cyrus deal with your bullshit today," Jonah said, pushing the older boy out of the way and wrapping his arm around Cyrus. This moment was surreal. The person Cyrus had been completely in love with for three years defended him. If only Jonah felt the same way.

Art. Cyrus' favorite class. It was where he got to express his feelings in a way he couldn't anywhere else. No matter how bad of a day he was having it was the one place Cyrus could be to escape. And to add to it all, Jonah sat next to him.

Cyrus had been drawing in his sketchbook for the last five minutes, straying from the assignment. He never followed the directions, but his teacher didn't mind. In her words, it was just his way of expressing his individuality.

The class flew by. Cyrus had spent the entire time drawing Jonah. He was having a great day. Until his face hit the ground.
"You didn't think I'd give you a break today, did you? Just because your little boyfriend defended you, that doesn't stop me."

"H-he's not my boyfriend. Jo-jonah's strai-straight," Cyrus barely let out. The boy walked away, laughing and leaving Cyrus on the ground. Great. Another injury.

Cyrus stayed on the ground. He didn't want to be here anymore. Luckily for him, school was over, but he still had to go home to his dad. He finally stood up and walked to his locker, his head down. Why did this have to happen everyday?

"Cy-Guy! Are you okay? I saw what that asshole did to you." Jonah saw? This day just kept getting worse and worse.

"Trust me, I'm fine. This happens everyday. I'm used to it by now," Cyrus explained. The last thing he needed was Jonah worrying about him. Andi and Buffy already did that enough.

Cyrus shut his locker and walked out of the school, Jonah still following him. The rain hit his back, but he tried to ignore it. He didn't need his dad to yell at him more than he already would.

"Does this happen at home? Do you get...hit?" Jonah asked.

"Once in a while, but I can take it-"

"Stop it. You can lie to yourself, but you can't lie to me. Cyrus, you're my friend." Friend. The word almost stung more than any of of the insults that were thrown at him. Cyrus walked away, tears falling from his eyes. He couldn't take it anymore. Enough was enough.

"Jonah!" Jonah turned his head. Cyrus was standing in the pouring rain, crying. This was it.

"I like you! I've always like you and I always will like you." Cyrus didn't know how to feel. He was about to get his heart broken. But he didn't.

Jonah ran to Cyrus and kissed him, right there in the rain. Cyrus kissed back, putting his left hand on Jonah's jaw. This moment was everything that Cyrus had dreamed of. It got even better when Jonah deepened the kiss.

"Why did kiss me?" Cyrus asked.

"Because I like you too. I know that we can't be together, but that doesn't stop me."

"All I want is you. K-kiss me again?" And there they were, their lips attached again in the rain. Everything felt okay again.

•••

"You worthless ass! Oh just fucking wait until I get my hands on you," The man in front of Cyrus yelled.

"I promise, I'll never kiss a boy again! Just pl-please..don't hit me." Tears were streaming down Cyrus' face.

"Don't be a fucking girl. I can't believe I got stuck with you as a son. That's it. I'm gonna knock you the-"

"Keep your hands off of Cyrus," A voice yelled. It was Jonah.

"If you even try to hit my boyfriend I'll call the police." Boyfriend? He was Jonah's boyfriend?

"Fine. Let the kid live here on his own, see if I give a shit. Fuck you, Cyrus," His dad shouted, walking towards the door and slamming it shut. Cyrus stayed curled up in the corner, afraid to move.

"B-boyfriend?" Cyrus whispered, flinching when Jonah knelt down and put his hand on Cyrus' shoulder.

"Boyfriend."

"Then just stay here...and talk to me until my pain goes away."
