The wind was calm, doing little to help reduce the heat. I can feel the sweat dribble down my back causing  my black worn shirt under my leather biker's jacket stick to my back. I love this jacket, thick enough to prevent  sharp point or edged weapons from going through my flesh. It got these nifty square studs on the shoulder straps  that give it a bit of 'don't fuck with me' like attitude. Now before I start my story. Allow me to introduce  myself. My name is Nytimas Ka'vale Shade. The year is 2341 AD. A post apocalyptic  era. I am thirty three years of  age, standing at a whooping staggering height of five foot four. My hair is a dark sandy brown. Which flows just  below my  shoulders. With streaks of platinum highlights from being in the scorching heat of the sun. Slender,  (most would say a stick) with  adequate shoulder width. My eyes are a ocean blue with hints of crystalline gray. I  am often told my eyes are my best feature. Somehow soul  penetrating on a soft level. Though I will never honestly  know, to me they are just eyes. Something that allows me to see. Nothing more. Im  a skitsophinatic, paranoid sort.  Often I see things that ain't really there. An frequently have this odd feeling that im being watched. You  know  that feeling that tickles your spine straight up to the nap of your neck. I have a sever leg injury that has forced  me to resort the  use of a cane to walk steadily. An as if that isnr enough to complicate things already my  equilibrium is way off the charts. Makes me  look like a drunk stumbling out of a bar. Im also very light  sensitive. Having to wear sunglasses or goggles to block out the light.

The world has changed dramatically as you may have known it. There is no bright green grass, no trees (well  none that ain't scorched  toothpicks), water is a valuable commodity and often used for bartering for supplies. The  world had become a desolate wasteland. I guess  world war six was one hell of a battle. This country trying to take  over that one, an so forth. Well when one side wasn't winning by brute  force they decided it best to simply nuke  the blimey bastards. So it began that way, or so im told. One place sent of nukes, which  triggered others to  launch theirs. It would seem no side won that war. Considering humans were now officially on the extinction list.

Anyway. I wasn't there, so I cannot really voice an opinion. I can tell you that life in the wastelands is  not an easy one. I don't really  have a profession or work per say. Some call me a gypsy or a nomad. Never staying  in one spot for long. Despite my leg I wandered  frequently. I couldn't call any one place home. My paranoias  prevent any form of permanent stand. I prefer to remain on the move. I do odd  jobs here an there for my supplies.  Mercenary work as they call it.

Right now im moving north across the sand dunes. Headed for what passed as a town called New Hamlet. Ive  been there once or twice. Its  nothing like California used to be. I kept a postcard of cali in my bag. I stumbled  upon it some days back while raiding a WalMart half  blown to shit by some form of earthquake or bombardment.  Possibly both. I would often take a look at it in the campfires light when I  decided to stop for rest. The picture  held four straight standing palm trees, with a blue ocean in the background. I think I keep it for  my mentality  sake. Always being hopeful that some day it just may rain an wash the heat away.

I estimate about another day of hike before I hit the worn out shack city of New Hamlet. The small city as  the populace there called it.  Was in fact nothing more then a ram-shambled savaged sheets of metal positioned  upright on four sides to make a small house or hut. Like  some old western town with a dust weed tumbling threw the  streets. The townsfolk managed to era-gate water from a small underground birch. I  dont know how deep they had to  dig or drill just to pop the seal and I dont much care to know.
