We continued to fight. My wounds stung as I spun, slicing the orcs necks. I paused, looking around the battlefield, keeping my dagger plunged through an orc's neck. It fell to the floor as I yanked it out. I flipped my daggers, stabbing them through an Uruk-hai's armour. It fell to the floor and as I turned around I saw Legolas leaping into my way, stopping an orc from ambushing me and killing me.
He pushed me to the ground, me yelping in protest. I blinked the dirt out of my eyes as I struggled to get up, my limbs aching. I saw a familiar blurred yellow and green shape lying on the ground. I rushed over to it, sighing in relief when I saw that he was okay.
"Legolas!" I gasped. "You almost got yourself killed!"
"You know that love is real if you're willing to die for it." Legolas replied, getting up.
I suddenly whipped my bow and arrow out, the arrow a centimeter away from Legolas's ear as it shot the orc behind.
"You didn't see that one coming." I teased, grinning.
"I bet you didn't see that one." He nudged the orc he'd just killed with his foot as the Army of the Dead swarmed the battlefield, picking off the dying orcs and Haradrim. They swarmed over the city, murdering as they went.
I laughed, hitting his arm lightly and jokingly.
I heard someone crawling over the dirt. I turned around, ready to slash at an approaching orc but saw only Eowyn scrambling to the body of her father.
"King Theoden!" I whispered, sheathing my daggers and rushing over to them.
"I know your face..." I stopped abruptly as Theoden started to whisper, brushing Eowyn's hair from her face.
"My eyes... they darken..." He murmured again.
"No... I'm going to save you! No!" Eowyn was starting to panic.
"You already have." Theoden clutched her hand to his heart. "My body... it's broken... it's snapped... let me go..."
"No!" Eowyn was searching his body, looking for a bleeding wound.
I knew she wouldn't find one, his bones had been broken. I could sense it as I reached down to touch his arm lightly.
"No! Don't leave me!" She was sobbing, crying, wailing in grief.
Heartbreak and pity overflowed from my heart. Eowyn dropped the King's body on the floor, turning to me and clutching me for comfort. As she wept into me, I wondered. Who would rule Edoras now? I turned around, seeing that the remaining orcs had either fled or been killed. The battle was over. Yet so many had been killed.
The sting in my wounds increased, and I quickly excused myself as Eowyn turned back to her father. Stumbling through the battlefield, my body going numb as I realised what had just happened in the battle. The Witch King was dead, I was free from his influence. Unfortunately, King Theoden has passed, leaving Rohan with no ruler.
"Willowriel!" I felt hands grab my shoulders, keeping me still. "What happened?"
"King Theoden is gone." I murmured. "The Witch King has been defeated." I was in shock.
Hundreds of emotions passed through Legolas's face before he settled with a small smile. "You're free from him."
I nodded.
"Has your burn faded?" He asked.
I turned my arm, the gaunlet having ripped off. Now you could freely see the burn that was changing from the sickly red to a white.
"It's starting to." I smiled sadly, remembering the night as the burn told me to.
"You've changed." Legolas said suddenly.
"In what way?" I frowned, looking up at him as he traced the elvish writing, the feeling sending warm sparks up my arm.
"You're brighter." He replied absently. "Your skin glows more than ever, your smile shines more than the moon. I can sense that the shadow in your heart has started to fade."
Those words made me smile the widest I'd ever smiled. I heard a whisper in my ears, my mother was speaking to me.
"What he says is true, now that the Witch King of Angmar is dead, your heart has been lifted." She whispered.
This time I didn't wait for him to do it, I leaned up and kissed him. I could feel the pleased smile as he returned the gesture, holding me close.
Gimli cleared his throat loudly. "Once you're quite done!"
We broke apart, still smiling as we looked into our eyes.
"Just a second..." Legolas replied absentmindedly, still dazed.
"Aragorn is speaking with the Army of the Dead." I saw Gimli out of the corner of my eye bow and walk away.
"We'd better go." I moved away, Legolas following me.
"Release us from our torment! Fulfill your oath!" The King snarled in Aragorn's face.
"Bad idea!" Gimli muttered to Aragorn. "They're very handy in a tight spot, even if they're dead."
"I hold your oath fulfilled, be at peace." Aragorn dipped his head and the Army was immediately swept away by the dust and the wind. The last thing we could see was the King of the Dead's grinning face before it disappeared in a whirlwind of dirt.

"Frodo has passed beyond my sight. The darkness is lengthening." Gandalf turned around, facing us.
"If Sauron had the ring, we would know of it." I murmured absentmindedly, fiddling with my bracelet as I leaned into Legolas.
"It's only a matter of time. He has suffered a defeat but in Mordor our enemy is regrouping." Gandalf replied, pacing the throne room of Minas Tirith.
"Let him stay there, rot. Why must we care?" Gimli said bitterly.
"Because ten thousand orcs stand between Frodo and Mount Doom." Gandalf replied sharply. "I have sent him to his doom." His voice lowered, murmuring.
"No." Aragorn turned around. "There is still hope for him! He needs safe passage through Gorgoroth. We can give him that!"
"How?" Gandalf asked, puzzled.
"Draw out Sauron's armies." I murmured, already knowing what Aragorn was about to say. "Empty his lands. Gather our strength and fight at the Black Gate."
"We cannot achieve victory." Eomer muttered.
"No, but it gives Frodo a chance. We keep Sauron's eye fixed on us. Keep him blind." Aragorn replied.
"A diversion." Legolas started to realise what he meant to do.
"Certainty of death and defeat. Small chance of success." Gimli muttered, then looked around at us. "Well, what are we waiting for?"
