Within the next week, Rory and Kyoya allowed the rest of the Host Club to know about their relationship. Hikaru and Kaoru bragged about knowing the whole time, Honey, Mori, and Haruhi congratulated them, and Tamaki was a bit depressed but also happy. Nobody else could know for the obvious reason that the clients still believed Rory was a boy, but for the time being all was well for everyone, at least, until about two weeks before Haruhi would leave for America. Haruhi had been working hard with her studies (and her English), and everyone else was obsessed with the party. Tamaki was in the process of pleasing his grandmother every chance he got, and Rory felt a bit sad. Though she and Haruhi may not have been very alike, they were similar in the way that they’d both masqueraded as men and had fallen in love with boys from the Host Club. Haruhi had also become a very good confidant, one of the only people to know how she truly felt about Kyoya. She was the only girl Rory had come to be friends with other than clients, and to not be able to see her oblivious face and hear her dry sarcasm every day would be difficult. She still encouraged Haruhi to do great things anyway, because she knew Haruhi would be happy. Rory could also tell that Tamaki was clearly not going to ever let Haruhi go somewhere without him, and on his behalf did not tell Haruhi that Tamaki was probably going to go with her. Then, the day of the party, Kyoya proposed a wonderful idea to her.
The night was beautiful as people horded around Haruhi to get some time with her before she left. Then, Haruhi was whisked away and Rory chuckled, knowing exactly what kind of makeover was in store for her. Rory waited for Haruhi to come back out for the game of “find Haruhi” and was delighted to see how beautiful she looked in her dress. She really was adorable, Rory thought. Aurora wished sincerely that she could dance with Kyoya, but she knew it was impossible with her identity being hidden. At least Haruhi could act like a girl, finally.
“May I have this dance?” Rory asked Haruhi after she had danced with Tamaki and a few others. Haruhi laughed and nodded, before Rory allowed her to continuously step on her feet. “I’m going to miss you, you know. I should stop by and show you around over the summer- I did live in Boston for a short amount of time, after all.”
“I would like that very much, Rory-Senpai. You should tell everyone about your identity tonight, too. Maybe then you could dance with Kyoya like you want to,” she mentioned, also feeling sad to part with her friend.
“You know I can’t. I still have to host after this, and this party isn’t about me, anyway. This is your night, Haruhi, and I want you to enjoy it to the fullest!” Rory smiled, hiding her displeasure at being in men’s clothes that night to make her friend happy. When the song was over, she found some of her clients and chatted for a while, before Kyoya came up to her and told the others that he had something important to discuss with Rory. He pulled her out onto a balcony, making sure that nobody could see them through the closed doors.
“What is it, Kyoya? Is something wrong?” Rory asked with a small tilt of her head. Kyoya smirked before giving his reply.
“I hope not. I have something to tell you, and I don’t want you to get angry at me for it. When was the last time you checked the sales on your book?” he asked, his smile growing.
“I checked three weeks ago when I had reached over ten thousand copies sold. Why?” she answered, still befuddled as to what the purpose of the conversation.
“Well, as of today, your book has sold one million copies. It’s a huge success, Rory,” he told her, supporting her form when her knees went weak. One million, Aurora thought. She was amazed and proud and ecstatic all at once. Tears came to her eyes before she attacked Kyoya in an embrace.
“I can’t believe it! Did I really sell that many? You aren’t joking? Why the hell would I be angry at you for telling me that?” she questioned out loud. She didn’t care how loud the volume of her voice was, or the fact that she was nearly hyperventilating. All that mattered was the fact that her dreams were coming true.
