About three weeks after Aurora met Daisuke, the students of Ouran were out of school for spring break. It was warm outside, but it was beautiful. Unfortunately, Rory was told by her father that they would be taking a trip to the beach, and Daisuke would be going. Rory had expressed her dislike for the man to her father, but as usual he never heard her opinion. It wasn’t that he didn’t care about her, but Rory knew that her father wanted to control her life so that she didn’t follow in her mother’s footsteps. The only problem was that if she wasn’t allowed to control her own life she probably would go insane.
On the way to the beach, Rory noticed that Daisuke had no sense of personal space in the limousine. He had practically an entire car in which he could move around, but he seemed to be stuck directly next to her, no matter how much she scooted away. He constantly talked to her- no, at her about all of the achievements he’s accomplished and what school e went to. Not only that, he wouldn’t stop talking about what he’d do if he were the head of a business, since his brother is taking over his family’s company. Rory could not have cared less if she tried. She briefly tried to engage him in a conversation about literature, maybe even music or the arts of any kind, but he was just so dull. He had no passion for anything but money, and it was clear by the look in his eyes that when he looked at Rory all he saw was money.
When they finally arrived at the hotel where they would be staying, Rory decided it was too beautiful of a day to stay inside a luxurious hotel room when she could walk down the street to a beach and play in the sand and water. When she told her father where she was going, he all but forced her to bring Daisuke with her. She reluctantly agreed to let him tag along.
The beach was beautiful, with warm sand beneath her feet and cool waves lapping and foaming along the shore. A few wealthy families from the hotel were scattered, since it was a private beach owned by the Ootori family who owned the hotel at which Rory was staying. She finally found a spot she liked to lay the large towel she brought down and Daisuke stuck the beach umbrella in the ground next to it. Then, they took off the clothing over their bathing suits and while Daisuke openly gawked at Aurora’s figure, Aurora was only mildly impressed by his. He was good-looking, she had to admit. But knowing that there was nothing more to him than that was the biggest turn-off ever.
“Are you actually going to go swimming? I figured you’d be tanning like other girls do,” Daisuke asked with a raised eyebrow.
“I’m not like other girls. I came here to have fun, and that’s what I am going to do.” Before he could respond again she dashed off into the water, happy to feel the wetness seep through her long, loose hair. It had been so long since she’d been to the beach, and this was the first time she’d been to one in Japan. The water was much warmer than the water on the American East coast, but it still felt refreshing. That was when she heard a child crying next to a broken sandcastle.
“What’s wrong, little boy? Please don’t cry,” she asked as she crouched down next to the little boy.
“M-my sandcastle is r-ruined!” he sniffed, tears still flowing like a raging river.
“That’s okay; we can build a better one!” Rory smiled at the small child, who in return beamed back up at her. He was pacified for the time being, and she helped him build a new sandcastle with more towers and a moat, along with some pretty seashells to decorate it. He had to be no older than six years old, but he was certainly adorable. “See, isn’t this one better than the first one?” she asked after they had finished.
“Yes! Thank you, lady!” the little boy exclaimed, hugging her tightly. All she could do was hug back and chuckle in response, but then the boy’s parents walked over to tell him it was time to go back to their room. They thanked Aurora for playing with him, and the little boy said goodbye. When Aurora turned around with a smile on her face, she saw none other than Kyoya Ootori giving her a strict look of disapproval.
