You walked to the corner of the room you had put your guitar in and picked it up. You carefully took it out of the case. After messing around for a second, you heard a knock at the door. Placing it in its case, but not closing it, you walk to the door and greet whoever was there. It was David and Gwen. "Hello (Y/N)! We were talking about playing guitar together so I thought we could just goof around now!" He said, Adjusting the way he was holding his guitar. "Oh, well come in!" You opened the door all the way for them to walk through. "Wait, I thought you said Gwen didn't like this stuff?" You scratched the back of your neck as you sat beside David on your bed. "I wanted to get to know our new counselor" she replied, pulling up a swivel chair. "Well that makes me glad!" You thanked her, while taking your instrument out of its case and placing the case out of the way. "So, what can you play?" Gwen asked. "Well usually I just listen to a song and go chord by chord seeing what fits" you tell her. You thought about moment and looked at her shirt. It had a Tardis and three daleks. You try to remember the theme before playing it. She perked up and almost falling out of the seat after hearing those notes, and looking like she was trying not to hum along. She had failed.
"DOOO WEE OOOOOOO" she squealed the tune loudly, making David jump a bit and you laugh. A moment later Dolph came saying he had heard sirens. You and David reassured him that no sirens were going off and sent him back to his tent. You discussed what shows were good with both of them for a while until Gwen had started to get tired. She stood up from the chair, yawning as it slid back a bit. "I think I'm gonna hit the hay. I think we have that hike tomorrow, so you guys should probably do so too" she said, stretching. She walked to the door and opened it before turning back. "Night" she sleepily waved. "Night Gwen" You and David said in unison. You both laughed at the action. Remembering why David was in your room in the first place, you pull out your guitar and examine his. "What wood type it your guitar David?" "Oh it's a Maple. Is yours a... rosewood?" He asked, reviewing the wood. "Yeah! I'm glad to know someone has the same guitar knowledge as me" You said, fidgeting with the strings. "Hey didn't you say you wrote some songs?" You ask. "Yeah! Do you wanna hear them?" He shifts in his seat "Of course!" You scoot back to give him more room to play.
When he's done you clapped. "Wow you have a lovely voice!" You complemented him. He did a fake little bow. "Why thank you" he laughed. "Have written any songs?" He tilted his head as he asked. "No I haven't really" that was a lie, you just didn't want to show him them out of embarrassment. What if he hated them? It was best to keep them to yourself."You should still play a song (Y/N)!" He encouraged. "Alright, alright" you lifted the instrument as he gave his full attention. You strum.
"Tom was born in 1942 With eyes of blue
And the doctors said That his birth was far too fast
His heart stopped twice But yet he survived
As he took his first breath, His mother took her last
And his father knew that he wasn't to blame
But he never quite looked at Tom the same
After that
And he rarely spoke about her But when he did
He said, 'Your mother used to say this'
When the skies are looking bad my dear And your heart's lost all its hope
After dawn there will be sunshine And all the dust will go
The skies will clear my darling I'll wake up with the one I love the most
And in the morning, I'll make you up
Some tea and toast.
Well, they met through a friend Who introduced them
And the first thing Tom said was, 'Would you like to dance?'
They moved with each other And when the music got slower
He said, 'Don't let go of my hand.'
He said, 'It's only polite if I ask you tonight Would it be alright, if I could walk you home?'
That night he told her of his birth And he said when it hurt
He thought about what his mother said about tea and toast. Well, two quick years went by They were side by side And without a plan they conceived a little child
He said, 'Woman, I love you and this you know But I only earn enough for our food and clothes But I love you and this baby until the day that I die.'
She said, 'We'll take care of this little life And we'll fall in love with her baby blue eyes And we'll be alright from some advice that I know.'
She said, 'I never got to meet her But if I did, I'm sure your mother would have said this'
When the skies are looking bad my dear And your heart's lost all its hope
After dawn there will be sunshine And all the dust will go
The skies will clear my darling We'll show this baby all the love we know
And in the morning, I'll make you up
Some tea and toast.
Well, he took those words And he made them proud He worked day after day And hour after hour
So that they could buy a little house just on the outside of town Their little girl grew up and so did they
They said that they loved each other everyday And forty years later, that brings us to now
And as they're walking down the street Her grip loosens on his hand
He puts his arm around her side as she falls to the ground He hears her breathing and that's the only sound
Her body on the floor attracts a worried crowd Tears rolls off his face as he says, 'Don't let go, now.'
And he's sitting by her bed in the hospital ward Then their daughter walks in with a family of her own
She says, 'Dad, I don't know if she can hear you now
But there's one thing mum would want you to know.'
When the skies are looking bad my dear and your hearts lost all its hope,
After dawn there will be sunshine And all the dust will go
The skies will clear my darling Now it's time for you to let go,
And in the morning I'll make you up
Some tea and toast" you look up to David who had been watching you play intently.
You thought he might not have liked it due to his silence. Without warning he started clapping. "That was amazing!" he cheered. You'd been complimented before but for some reason his compliment made you feel indescribably happy, and you had no idea why. "Thank you! It's definitely not as good as yours" you rubbed the back of your neck. "you're right, it wasn't as good. It was better!" He probably would have yelled a lot louder if the campers weren't sleeping. You continued to thank him. "Personally, I think it's the best I've heard in a long time!" He continued. His goofy grin just kept getting bigger. You both shared songs you liked for a while, when he brought up an an idea. "We should write a song!" He said. "Thats not a bad idea!" You cheered. You went to your desk and grabbed papers and a clipboard.
After writing for a while you looked at the time. "Yikes! We should probably sleep soon." You said. "Yeah, we'll have to continue this tomorrow" he said helping you gather the papers. You reached for the last paper. He had been going for the paper too, causing him you put his hand on yours. "Sorry!" You pulled your hand back, as a tint of blush painted your cheeks as well as his. You put the papers in an empty drawer. "Thank you for making me feel so welcome today" you say, closing the drawer. "Well if you're going to be apart of the team we can can't just blindly hate you!" He said. You smile at him as he walks to the door. "Goodnight David" you waved. "Goodnight!" He shouted back. You watched him from your door until he fell out of sight. Sighing, You throw on your pajamas and climb into bed. You really liked this job. You really liked David. You were so glad you saw that Ad. You close your eyes and drift off to sleep.
