Chapter Six
Adrian
"Rylas, please eat." I sighed for the umpteenth time as I watched him pick at his food. "Not hungry..." He mumbled, pushing the plate away and leaning back in the chair. I sighed and stood up, "That's it. We're going out somewhere. Go out some shoes on." I stated, grabbing both plates and walking over to the garbage. "I thought we had to stay here?" He questioned. "I can't stand watching you mope around like a depressed puppy." I stated, throwing out the food on the plates, then putting them in the sink. "Go change or whatever and I'm going to make a call to make sure we can go out for a few hours at least." I told him as I pulled out my phone and dialed Garth' s number. "Okey!" He jumped up and excitedly ran to his room.

"Hello?" Austin's groggy voice sounded on the other line. "Why are you answering Garth's phone?" I questioned. "He left his phone at my house... he'll be back in a minutes. Is there a problem?" Austin yawned. "No, I was just wondering if I could take Rylas into town for a few hours. Keeping him cooped up in here is making the both of us a bit depressed." I stated, leaning against the counter. "Uh, I don't know... I mean, I wanna say yes, but... better make sure it's fine with Garth so he doesn't get pissed off, ya know?" He yawned again. "Yeah..." I paused and looked around the corner. "So, how's Kevin doing?" I questioned. "Not good. He hasn't woken up yet, Man. We're afraid he might not make it through this..." Austin sighed heavily. "What have you told Rylas about him?" He asked calmly. "I told him that Kevin is alive, but his condition is undetermined." I stated calmly. "Okey. How's he holding up?" He yawned again. "Like I said before... he's depressed about the whole thing." I sighed heavily. "Who isn't?" Austin mumbled. "Uh, how are... how are you doing through this?" He asked quietly. "I'm okey, I guess." I lied, looking down. "Liar. You sound horrible. When was the last time you had proper sleep?" Austin sighed. "A long time ago... When I was with you." I muttered the last part. "Adrian..." he whispered. "When I get the all clear, I'm coming to see you guys." He stated sternly. "No, Garth needs you there. Especially since Kevin isn't out of the hospital yet." I frowned. "We have everything basically under control." Austin argued. "Austin, I want to be able to go home and sleep in my bed and binge watch stupid movies and cartoons like the old days, but we need this to be over and some with for good before that happens, you get what I'm saying?" I stated calmly. "Like the old old days or the old days?" He asked with a hint of hope in his voice. "The old, old, old days. Endless nights of nonsense and sleeping until 4pm the next day." I smirked. "I'll have Garth call you back as soon as he gets here." Austin stated happily. "Alright. Talk to you later." I chuckled lightly. "Bye." He laughed, them hung up. I slipped my phone into my pocket and smiled, then let out a sigh. "Someone still likes someone." Rylas blurted out standing in the doorway. "I don't know what you're talking about." I gave him a look. "Oh, please! The tone in your voice and that smile begs to differ." He rolled his eyes. "Oh, shut up." I muttered. "So, can we go or did I get excited for nothing?" He questioned. "Garth will call me back shortly." I stated calmly. "Okey, so that's a maybe." Rylas sighed. "No, it's a possibly." I rolled my eyes. "Same difference." He laughed. "Hey, Adrian..." He looked down at his feet. "Yeah?" I raised a brow. "Tell me the truth about how Kevin is doing. I know you lie to me cause I hear you when you're on the phone." He stated up at me with pleading eyes. "Rylas..." I sighed heavily and ran a hand through my hair. "I'm sorry, but I don't really know how he's really doing besides the fact that he's still in the hospital." I frowned. "So, he hasn't woken up at all? Markas lied to me?" His eyes glossed over with tears. "When did you talk to Markas?" I questioned. "Yesterday. You left your phone on the counter so I tried calling Kevin's number... But Markas answered." He looked down. "I'm so sorry, Rylas..." I sighed. "We're all just trying to keep you safe, and it breaks us when we lie to you." I added, walking up to him. "But lying to me about how Kevin is doing?" he frowned. "I hated it, too. I hate the lies. I'm sorry." I hugged him. "We really don't know if he'll make it and it tears us all apart." I added. "What if... what if he doesn't wake up?" He cried. "I don't know..." I muttered, holding him closer to me. "I can't lose him, Adrian." He sobbed, holding onto me for support. "I know..." I rubbed circles on his pace. Not even a minute later, my phone rang. "Hold on a second." I let Rylas go for a moment and got my phone out. "Hello?" I answered the familiar number. "Austin tells me you want to take Rylas into town?" Garth got straight to the point. "Yes, if it's safe to do so." I replied. "Alright, but not all day, just a few hours. Call me or Austin if you see anyone familiarly unfriendly." He stated sternly. "Alright. Bye." I hung up and slipped my phone in my pocket. "Still up for a trip into town?" I looked down at Rylas. "Hell yeah." He smiled, whipping his face.

We went into town and went from store to store, just buying random stuff, food, clothes, etc. We got ice cream and sat in the park. We watched the sunset, then headed home. "That was fun." Rylas stated, leaning back in his seat. "It was refreshing after being in that cabin for so long." I agreed. "Yeah, hope we can go out more often. I'm starting to get claustrophobic from being stuck there for so long." he chuckled lightly. "It's not that small of a place." I rolled my eyes. "Still." he laughed. We pulled up to the cabin, but I immediately backed up once I saw an unfamiliar car in the driveway. "Shit, who's that?" Rylas questioned. "I don't know." I stated, picking up my phone and dialing Austin's number. It rang and rang, but no answer. "Damnit." I muttered, then tried dialing Garth's number. No answer... I tried Markas' number, then Logan's, but still nothing. "This isn't good." I stated, backing up and turning around. I sped back in the direction we came from and tried another number and prayed that it would work. "Who fuck is zis?" a thick russian accent was the answer. "Thank god, Victor. It's Adrian. Have you had any contact with either Garth or Austin in the past 24 hours?" I questioned. "Niet, but I have spoken to Markas. It's not good here. I kan't be on phone long, but I assume zat zings are going bad for you as vell." he replied. "Shit, what's happening?" I asked with a groan. "Ling and his men have been everywhere attacking everyone in both Garth's group and mine. Ve are trying to get zings under kontrol, but I kan't figure out what happened to Austin and Garth. Markas is at hospital vith Logan trying to keep Kevin safe, but Kevin's health started to get vorse." Victor explained. "Oh, fuck. Shit, goddamnit." I cursed, slamming my fist on the steering wheel. "Okey, well, we went into town for a few hours and came back with unknown cares at the cabin, so we turn tail and got out of there. I'm headed back to town now." I stated. "Alright, find motel or something zen text me name. I'll send some of my men to make sure zat no one unfriendly finds you." He proposed. "Okey, bye." I hung up, then slammed my fist on the steering wheel again, "Fuck!" I cursed. "That doesn't sound good..." Rylas commented. "It's not." I sighed. We got back into town and found a motel. I quickly explained to Rylas what was happening, and then we waited to see what happened next.

"This is bad. So, so, so, so very bad..." Rylas paced back and forth. "Please sit down or something, you're making my head spin with all that pacing." I sighed and ran a hand through my hair. "Sorry, can't help it." he sat down on the bed across from me. "Don't worry. This'll settle down soon and everything will work out fine." I stated, trying to convince myself as well as calm him down. "That sounds so unsure." he frowned at me. "Yeah, I know..." I let out a heavy sigh. A faint knock sounded on the door. I stood up and pulled the gun out from the back of my pants and slowly walked over to the door. I motioned to Rylas to stay there and be quiet, then looked through the peephole. I saw two men who worked for Victor and sighed in relief. I carefully opened the door and allowed them to come inside. "Hello, you are Adrian, korrect? And you are Rylas, Da?" the tallest man spoke first. "You guys must work for Victor, right?" I answered with a question. "Da, Victor sent us to eskort you both back home." the shorter one stated. "Home? As in, back to the cabin or..." Rylas stood up. "Niet, kabin has been kompromised.Ve are taking you to Victor." the taller one answered. "Alright, let's not wait any longer then." I stated. We got into my car, then followed behind the two men in theirs. The drive was long, and the longer we were in the car, the more worried Rylas looked. "How much farther?" he questioned. "Not to long now. We're almost there." I stated, letting out a yawn.

Rylas

We drove for what it felt like forever, and when we finally got there we were surrounded by tall russian men and escorted into a rundown warehouse. "Adrian, good to see zat you made it safely here." A man I presumed was Victor greeted us in the office of the warehouse. "Glad to be safe. Please tell me you have good news." Adrian shook Victor's hand. "I do. I just recently go in kontact vith Garth. Zey have gotten zings under kontrol, but zere is some bad news." He replied. "Oh, gosh..." Adrian huffed. "Austin vas enjured in ze attack zey enkountered. He suffered many gunshot vounds and vas taken to ze hospital." Victor frowned. "Oh, no..." I stepped back and gasped. "Are you sure? I mean... Did Garth tell you this personally?" Adrian questioned, his voice gone cold and lifeless. "Da, I am sorry." Victor gave a look of sympathy. "It can't be." Adrian clinched his fisted and turned away. "Is he going to be alright?" I questioned, walking to Adrian and putting my hand on his shoulder. "As far as ve know, he is stable." Victor replied. "Good, now..." Adrian paused and sighed. "We need to get Rylas somewhere safe and away from here." he stated turning and giving Victor a stern gaze. "Alright zen." Victor nodded.
