[5.2] A Tonic For Your Troubles

I never expected to be caught up in all of this...But then again who does?

THIRD P.O.V

Jasper spent days in the same spot. His gaze never wavering from the injured girl in front of him. He hadn't been hunting in a few weeks and his throat ached with a thirst for the brunette girl in the hospital bed beside him. He could hear her beating heart, her blood rushing through her veins in an attempt to fix the damage done to her body. Yet he pushed his thirst away and focused on his injured mate.

After a week in the hospital, Cedar finally fluttered her chocolate brown eyes open to find herself in a sterile white hospital room. She looked around the room at the beeping machines and blue curtains before her eyes finally landed on her boyfriend.

Jasper smiled slightly at his now awake girlfriend. His eyes sparkled with joy at Cedar. She smiled at him gently and tried to get sit up before grimacing in pain. Jasper immediately noticed his girlfriends pain. He quickly pushed her pillows up so that she could sit up without causing herself any pain.

"H-How long ha-have I been here?" Cedar croaked out with a hoarse voice. She was scared that this was another of the countless nightmares that she had been having for the past week. The nightmares that her head had created were truly horrific and scared her more than her encounter with a deadly vampire. Jasper sensed his girlfriends fear and instantly calmed her down before she got even more scared.

"Only a week. Carlisle said that you'll be released in a few days or so now that you're up," Jasper answered Cedar with a smile. He was more than glad that his mate had finally awoken from her demon filled slumber and was finally okay. Cedar smiled at Jasper as he handed her a glass of water for her hoarse voice. She quickly drank all of the water before handing the glass back to Jasper.

"Is my mother here?" Cedar quizzed Jasper, even if she already knew the answer to her own question.

"No, we tried to call her but someone else picked up the phone and told us that she was in some police chase type thing," Jasper said trying not to disappoint his girlfriend too much. "But someone did drop in some chicken soup from her." Cedar's disappointment at her mother suddenly evaporated and her smile grew bigger at Jasper's statement.

"Do you know where the sou-? Cedar started to ask Jasper but was interrupted when Jasper handed her a blue tea flask that had the word Dreamer written on it in fancy black writing. Cedar quickly took the lid off of the flask and looked inside the flask before showing it to Jasper.

A look of surprise crossed Jasper's face when he saw what was inside of the blue flask. Inside of the flask was a fizzy pink liquid that was bubbly and hot. Cedar moved the flask away from Jasper and drank the fizzy pink liquid that tasted like hot chocolate with cinnamon and marshmallows. Cedar smiled when she finished the delicious drink.

"What was that?" Jasper asked curiously. He really did want to know what the pink substance was.

"Tonic," came Cedar's reply. "My mom makes them whenever she gets the chance. They taste really good." Cedar spoke with a gentle smile, remembering when her mom taught her how to make her own tonics.

It was a Sunday, the only day that she didn't have work. Cedar was doodling in her sketch pad whilst her mother was crushing up different herbs using a pestle and mortar. Cedar finished her drawing and swung her legs off the stool she was perched on and walked towards her mother. Her eyes filled with curiosity at the strange concoction that her mother was pouring into a long vile with a label that read "Thirst."

"What are you making Mammy?" Cedar asked curiously. Her eyes filled with wonder when the liquid in the vile changed from a deep blue to an intense yellow.

"A tonic," her mother replied."Would you like to know how to make them?" Cedar furiously nodded her head at the statement.

Cedar and her mother spent most of the day in the kitchen for the next two Sunday's making tonic after tonic.
