A girl in faded grey jeans steps out of the taxi. She turns to look at her surroundings, her black boots already browned with a thick layer of mud.
"Eliana! You're here!" A loud voice shrieks from the porch.
"It appears so..." Eliana mumbled.
The woman runs outside to greet her visitor, who is struggling to keep the bottom of her pink sparkly suitcase off the muddy driveway. Eliana's aunt gives her a hug and then lifts up the suitcase with one hand and beckons the young girl to follow her.
"So.... Where are the horses Aunt Brooke?" Eliana asks enthusiastically.
Her aunt laughs to herself.
"Honey, I don't own any horses."
Eliana kicks a rock in frustration. 'This is going to stink. No horses, no fun.' She thinks.
"I know how horse obsessed you are and I can't help you there, but I do have a flock of sheep, some chickens and an old farm dog." She reasons.
Eliana rolls her eyes. She was hoping for a massive barn full with horses and shiny saddles, with cute little nameplates on the stall doors, but instead all she sees is a run down old shack stable with one empty stall.
"Can I go look at the barn?" Eliana asks in mock politeness.
"Sure, just don't be too long because I am about to begin cooking dinner." Her aunt replys.
Eliana runs over to the stable too see if there is any evidence of a horse ever being there. She peeks into the stall but all that is there is a small pile of hay in the very corner.
"Ugh, its not even set up for Pixie" Eliana says.
Eliana pretends to lead a horse into the empty stall, and then gets the pile of hay and spreads it out more. A girl in Black leggings and a pink plaid shirt walks in, acting as if she is also leading a horse. she immediately drops her imaginary lead rope.
"Oh um sorry, I didn't know someone was here" The new girl murmured,
"Its okay, my name is Eliana in case you were wondering" She replied.
"I'm Mila, and I sometimes use this as my imaginary horse's stable, when I have been helping out on the farm" The girl said.
"Oh right, I was going to use this for my imaginary horse, Pixie."
"I'm sure Kesia wouldn't mind sharing?"
"Okay, want to take them on a trail ride tomorrow?"
"Sure, come by the house whenever! I have to go to dinner now so I will see you tomorrow?"
"Yep! Bye!!!"
Eliana walks away from the barn smiling happily.
"Maybe this won't be so bad after all" She muttered to herself.
She walks into the house and finds herself standing in a small kitchen, with wooden bench tops and a beautiful country smell.
"Ah, Eliana you're just in time for dinner, we are having Roast Chicken."
"Oh, I was sort of hoping you would be like the people in the movies and cook cheese on toast or something.."
Her aunt laughs.
"Well don't worry, I do sometimes love"
Eliana giggles and sits down at the small round table in the center of the room. Directly in front of her was a framed photo of what looked like a dapple grey horse running through a paddock.
"Aunt Brooke?"
"Yes?"
"Did you ever own a horse?"
Her aunt looks up at the old photo.
"Ah, yes that was Vera," She said as she put the plates down on the table.
"She was a very beautiful horse, she and I would compete together, I had her since she was a foal. One morning I woke up to find her lying in her stall with severe colic. I tried to get her up and walking but by then it was too late to save her.."
"Oh I'm sorry, that sounds awful!" Eliana exclaimed
"Well it was a long time ago, now eat your dinner"
Eliana nods and eats her food.
Okay, this is my first chapter and I doubt this will even get any reads but it was fun to write so.. yeah. Sorry it really cliche but I do have some ideas of how to make it different than others. Tysm for reading and please comment if you have any other ideas for me :)
